This is a great inexpensive place to say in a good location. It's right on the 101/Pima Highway, and also on Shea road (a main road), and yet is very quiet, despite it's location.
It has a lovely garden area and smallish, but very nice pool. It's always nice to have breakfast included, even if, as you might imagine, the breakfast is nothing special (and I always still have to go out for coffee because motel coffee is pretty awful).
We got a suite, which I highly recommend. The price is really reasonable especially if you book ahead online. And the suite means that it is extra quiet since your bedroom is back from the hall. And we had a microwave, mini fridge, and coffeemaker (which made coffee that was only slightly worse than what was served downstairs).
I gave it a very good rating, because for the price and location, it's a great deal. However, it's not perfect. I thought the place smelled funny (luckily I bring room spray to take care of such problems.). Also, we could never get it very cool in the bedroom, in spite of the fact that it was just May, so not actually that hot yet. Also, our shower didn't work (bathtub did, but shower part wouldn't go on. Since I discovered the morning we were leaving, we didn't bother to report it).
It seems a bit typical of La Quintas, (if slightly more run down), which I think are a good value overall.
This is a quiet and comfvortable hotel in the Scottsdale area of Phoenix AZ. It is located only 15-20 minuites from Phoenix airport. The rooms are spacious, well ventilated and, above all, quiet. Reception and check-in were efficient and brisk. Snacks and beverages in the reception area were tasty and plentiful. Easy to organise taxi transfers. All this adds up to great value.
Our stay was great. the staff was friendly and very helpful. The room was clean the bed was OK. The amenities were good. The continental breakfast had a great selection of items. I would stay here again if the need arises.
We checked in on 4/30/13 for an overnight stay. Our son was having surgery at Scottsdale Shea hospital right across the street. We wanted to be nearby as we live an hour away. We were given a 'medical rate' and booked two rooms with king beds, a microwave and mini-fridge.
Check in/check out was smooth and the front desk staff pleasant and accommodating. I think this is one of the few hotels left where you can still get a smoking room and they made an effort to locate the smoking and non-smoking rooms close to each other.
They also have a shuttle service that would've taken us to nearby medical facilities (Mayo Clinic is also close). We didn't need to use this service but I can think how handy it would be.
The bed and bedding were immaculate. The microwave and mini-fridge are a bit dated and a little beat up but spotless and worked just fine. The TV program guide seemed to be showing a different time zone as everything was an hour off. We just were too tired to investigate if that was something we could have adjusted for ourselves.
The bathroom was spacious and exceptionally clean but again, the counter, tub and fittings were showing their wear. Towels were plentiful but no conditioner or lotion provided.
Overall the hotel is spotless and the staff friendly and accommodating. The grounds, pool and exercise room maintained to the same standard. Nothing is in disrepair or untidy, it just looks like there are a few opportunities for updates and paint. There wasn't any reason I would not stay again.
We were here specifically due to the location of the hospital but I saw several people leaving with golf bags and I'm certain there is great shopping nearby. For any quick snack needs there is a convenience store that nearly shares the same parking lot as the hotel. Directly across the street is a full grocery store and plentiful dining options all within walking distance. The continental breakfast isn't much so if you need heartier fare, there is a Dunkin Donuts and Einstein Bagels across the street.
We would have no hesitation staying here again although we would prefer it to be non-medical in nature so we could explore more of the area.
We were welcomed at this LaQuinta and checked in early on April 12, 2013 on the tail end of Arizona Bike Week after travel overnight from Canada. When I say 'welcomed', I mean it. The staff were friendly and genuinely pleased to welcome us. This hotel is close to the "Loop" and this makes getting around easily right from the parking lot. Despite that, we would have thought we were on the outskirts of town, the noise level was negligible. The shuttle was running regularly (thanks Jack!) and helped to keep those who may have been drinking off the roads before the festivities on Friday night at Westworld saving us a taxi cab fare. The room was spacious, had 2 queen beds as requested and there was absolutely no odor of smoke or anything else. The ice machine was fully functional and being used regularly to fill coolers. Checkout was at noon as opposed to the regular 11:00 a.m. which gave us time to grab a coffee and go out for a drive before checking out.
When it was time to return home, we were in Winslow Arizona, about 3 hours away. The night before our 11:45 p.m flight on Saturday, I called to see if this hotel had a "day rate" for us to hang out by the pool for the day before heading to the airport for early evening return of our rental car and airline checkin. "No day rate, just come on down and spend the day, no charge". Seriously??? Yes, you bet, and upon our arrival, Palacea and Jack greeted us, offered us lotion and cold water and told us to make ourselves at home around the pool.
We will definitely be back next year and will likely take the room for 3-4 nights. Should you be considering whether this might be a welcoming place, consider no more. I've never experienced anything like this before when travelling.
Thanks LaQuinta, Jack, Palacea and the rest of the staff!
