"Restful oasis"

In the midst of the desert, you will find La Quinta a restful oasis. I so enjoy their great continental breakfast with muffins, bagels, toast, oatmeal, boiled eggs, and do it yourself waffles. The people are friendly and willing to help you with your needs. Everything is near this hotel. The only mall in Del Rio is in walking distance. Sirloin Steakhouse is right next door with their buffet which is very tasty.
They have a nice swimming pool which you WILL want to take advantage of due to the HOT temperatures in Del Rio, TX.
Now that got your attention didn?t it ? It sure got mine when I first checked into the room. I come from a cold climate which doesn?t have such wildlife but I know they are part of the landscape in southern destinations. Still it wasn?t like finding chocolate mints on your pillow. The first one in the bathroom wasn?t that big deal but the second one gave me pause ? clearly there was an issue with housekeeping. I had checked in at about 8 pm and the hall was full of bedsheets from the rooms being ?cleaned?, which disappeared quick enough by the one lady I saw working. I took this as an indication of understaffed, overworked housekeeping. But I shouldn?t have been surprised - there were plenty of signs before I even got to the room. This Inn was listed as #3 by my fellow travellers but I think they were being overly generous. This was the first ?budget? hotel on our road trip and it turned out to be the biggest disappointment of all. I passed on #1 because it was in an area I would have been concerned about Rod and the #2 choice because of the tavern that is part of the complex. I had always done well with 3rd and 4th picks, relying on my fellow tripAdvisor travellers. This was also my 3rd La Quinta on this trip and the first 2 had been beyond reproach ? some of our best experiences. This Inn is very worn, tired and smells bad. The carpets are dirty, worn and badly stretched out of shape. Security doors don?t lock, the pool was dirty, there were cigarette butts everywhere, small pieces of paper strewn throughout, paint peeling on doors and walls, bathroom fixtures hanging loose and full of bugs, the list goes on and on. It had definitely seen better days. Then there was the room itself. The nice young man at the desk was kind enough to give me another room without dead cockroaches ? a ?nonsmoking? room ? across the hall from smoking rooms. Needless to say the hall stunk of smoke. When I entered the room the air conditioner was turned up high but I needed heat and switched it over, which was a big mistake. It hadn?t been cleaned for awhile ( if ever ) and the dust and stench that came from it was toxic and made me sick. The chair was worn and dirty, the toilet had a ring in the bowl, the covers on the 2 queen beds were thin and stained. The sheets and mattress pad were also worn thin. No fridge, no microwave, no plugs at all for the electronics and oh yes ? 2 dead cockroaches.
There were a few pros ? the bed wasn?t that bad ? although definitely not up to the standards of the La Quinta?s we had stayed at thus far. The TV was excellent - just a basic cable package but it worked for me ? it was like TV at home. The wifi was ok ? until it died in the middle of an upload. The parking area was secure enough for Rod ( and I had a great view of the overflowing garbage bin). It was pretty decent breakfast in the morning. I am a sucker for waffles, especially in the shape of Texas. There was fruit, juices, decent coffee and cereals and toasts ? typical La Quinta fare( although I had to pick and choose my table to find a clean one). But that?s the best I got. So you can save a few bucks and stay here but next time I?m going to spend more money ? or sleep in my truck. Which I did a lot of the next day. Yes I am a princess and need a good nights sleep to be able to drive the next day. I know better, I got lazy. Chain hotels are not all equal ? they depend on the people who own and run them. I needed this reality check ? I had gotten great value on my TripAdvisor choices up until now ? next time I would be more diligent. I expect that it will be a long time before I stay at a La Quinta Inn again and that?s the real problem. One bad experience is often enough to turn me off to an otherwise awesome chain of Inns.I did shoot video of the room but couldn?t bring myself to shoot anything more - it?s at :

This LaQuinta is starting to show its age, but it is clean comfortable and safe. It is also a grat value for the money. When we visit our son in del rio we will be returning to this hotel after trying two other hotels in Del Rio.
We used points that were due to expire to stay here for free. We won't be returning to this property. Although the location was close to dining options and main roads, there is very little else going for this property. We stayed in the last building in the far right corner of the parking lot. The door at the top of the outdoor stairs was very old and didn't close upon entering unless you pulled it closed manually, and waited for it to engage (a very slow process!) with the electronic lock to ensure non-guests wouldn't gain entry. Each time we left our room to retrieve something from our vehicle or dine out, we found the door just cracked open enough to allow anyone full entry to the building.
The room was small and not entirely clean. There were extra pillows a flat-screen T.V. but little else to make the room appealing. The continental breakfast was very limited in choice of items, even though we arrived shortly after it opened. The fruit hadn't been rinsed and was close to spoiling. There were only a few choices of different types of items (e.g. cereal, juice).
We encountered inconsistent service quality. The gentleman at the front desk was friendly/helpful upon check-in but the lady at the front desk in the morning was dismissive and impatient. She seemed very preoccupied with other items on the computer and her cell phone (whether work-related or personal wasn't clear) when we sought her assistance for a minor issue. Although she eventually (and reluctantly) resolved the minor issue, it was accompanied with a bad attitude in the process. We weren't too concerned with her bad attitude at the time, as we knew not to take it personally, but the poor customer service was definitely noted. She seemed "burned out" and it was taken out on us with her unprofessionalism. Sadly, it made a huge impact on our view of the property, as it would on any property where customers are treated poorly.
Inconsistent customer service; non-guest building accessibility due to half-functioning door; the lack of variety and quality of the very basic continental breakfast; and older age of the property equates to a poor review for us. Again, we will not be returning to this property.
Travelling through Del Rio stopped at the La Quinta for the night. We had a king bed room off the pool side. Staff friendly and very accomodating. A very clean nice size room. Enjoy having room to use the computer and they had a recliner for relaxing with reading or watching the Tv. Also side door to the pool. Price was good. Morning breakfast was good.
