"Bare Basics"

We took the elevator to our 3d floor accommodations where most of the rooms open to a veranda/outdoor hall. Our room was in an inner part of the building (maybe older part?) Our hearts kinda sank upon entering this hallway. The carpet was stained, dirty-looking and old. There was not one piece of artwork on the hall walls. So, bleak at best and totally unwelcoming. The rooms were fine, basic, clean. There was a bike race in town which we knew nothing about but were told that was why the price was so high. I'm too embarrassed to say what we paid for this mediocre hotel. For the price I just expect a lot more. I wouldn't stay there again and would advise anyone to keep looking.

"Great location, looks like a motel"

From the outside this hotel looks like a roadside motel. If you are a business traveler you might be embarassed to have clients/partners pick you up or drop you off here. Inside though, rooms are clean, big and the bed is very comfortable. The location of the hotel is great too, you can walk, bike or take the bus to all major downtown attractions. It's a couple of blocks from the University of Texas campus. Breakfast is free, but it's also terrible. Service was great.

"amazing gem in downtown austin"

recently stayed at this hotel coming off a whirlwind week at sxsw. got an amazing deal on hotwire and for under $50 night, wasnt expecting a whole lot from the property. gotta say i was blown away by the place, from staff to the rooms and a great location, you cant go wrong staying here! i have stayed at half dozen different hotels in austin over the years, some good, some bad and some ugly and this was the best of them. stayed at higher end hotels there, including hyatt and radisson and dollar for dollar, this beat them. the rooms appear to be newly upgraded, front desk staff are uber friendly and you can quickly walk a few blocks to be ion the middle of all the fun that the 6th street area has to offer. safe area at night it seems and a fairly decent, but small, pool to unwind at on those hot summer texas days... if you can get this hotel at a good rate, you would be silly not to stay here!

"Not good but not the worst."

I needed a cheap hotel in downtown Austin, so I did a Priceline bid and got stuck at this La Quinta. It was only one night, just to sleep, and I survived, but I wanted to warn anyone who might choose this hotel willingly. It's not good, but it's not 100% terrible. Actually, the lady who checked me in that night was very friendly and accommodating, as was the valet attendant. No complaints there, but things started to go downhill after that. This hotel is all outdoor entrances, so you walk on outdoor corridors to get to the rooms. These areas were very dirty and run down, as was the elevator. When walking into the room, I wasn't immediately turned off. The carpet was relatively clean, it had a flat screen TV, the furniture wasn't horribly outdated, and the bedding and decor appeared fairly modern and clean. However, closer inspection revealed the problems . . . a water leak through the ceiling had caused a lot of damage and discoloration. The baseboard carpet was tearing and dirty. The areas around and behind the furniture were very dirty, as well. The bathroom area was the worst. The laminate flooring in the sink area was very dirty, as were the baseboards and walls. And the dirty plug of the hairdryer screamed "don't touch me!" The bathtub had mold/mildew and a very dirty bottom on the non-skid pads. I recommend wearing shower shoes or flip flops when showering. There was no fridge or microwave. There was one small trash can for the whole room. There was a very tiny bottle of shampoo and soap bar . . . nothing else. There was an outdoor patio area set up with the cheap plastic furniture you buy at the dollar discount store. If you just need a place to sleep for a few hours in downtown Austin and do nothing else, this may be survivable. However, if you're looking for a place to "spend time," don't stay here. Not good.

"Average, but not bad for the money"

I stayed here while I attended a conference in the Sheraton down the street. It is no five star hotel for sure, but I found the room to be dated yet comfortable and reasonably clean. Free WiFi and breakfast were pluses as well, although the breakfast was a very limited continental breakfast. I feel like I got what I paid for, especially considering the location only a few blocks down from the Capitol and within walking distance of everything on Congress and also 6th St. As a downside, it was a bit noisy at night mostly from other guests. Also, I found that the hot water didn't last as long as I would like.
