My family and I have stayed here several times over the years and have had mixed experiences. This one however, put me over the top and I will not be staying and/or supporting any other La Quinta property again in the future.
7/12/14: My friend and I did a 120 mile bike ride with over 11.000 feet of climbing, needless to say we were beat and needed rest. My nephew came along to drive us around. I made a call to the front desk to see if I could get a cot for the 3rd person that was staying with us in the room. I was told by the nighttime attendant that cots were not allowed due to fire hazard. I had requested at the time of booking for 3 people and a room with a sleeper sofa. When I explained to the nighttime attendant he said he could do noting about it and suggested that one of us sleep on the floor....(blink, blink). I again explained I had not received the booking I had reserved. The attendant didn't acknowledge my statement but reinforced that no cots were allowed due to fire hazard. I responded that I understood him the first time he stated such, thanked him for the wonderful customer service and stated I was displeased with him.
We head to dinner down stairs at the old Chicago, it was very good and service was great. We walked back upstairs to our room and found the keys didn't work. I go to the front desk, explain that my keys were not working. The nighttime attendant states, "Oh great, Mr. A, I wanted to talk to you about the cot situation...." I lost it at this point. Are you telling me you canceled my key to my room so I was forced to come talk to you about a situation that I've already explained I understood your policy about cots. He stated he wanted to talk some more about this. I was livid. I stated that I could careless about his opinion and to please re code my keys so I could get some rest.
Then, proceed to Monday morning 7/14/14, I find that double charged for the room. I made a call to the hotel 970-468-6200, numerous times. i finally got a person to answer the phone and explained I was double charged. He stated "it happened a lot this weekend" Great!!! Well I gave my name contact number etc to get the refund. I was told a manager would call me in an hour or so, 4hrs past. nothing. I call and call back, no answer. I Call corporate give them my info and i'm currently waiting for a call back from their management team to process my refund.
I travel a lot for work and stay in hotel rooms 10+ nights a week, never have I have such issues and or experienced such unprofessional behavior.
Cliffs: You get what you pay or and then some, if I were you I would stay somewhere else.
Close to the interstate. Friendly staff. Welcomed our dog without problems. Quiet & comfortable rooms - had a good sleep. Good breakfast. In the mountains & not as 'busy' as other nearby cities (Aspen, etc.).
Usually la Quinta are ok and very nice and pet friendly. BUT!! There was standing water in the bathroom lavatory when we arrived, and the plug laying on the vanity top. So SOMEONE knew it wasn't working before we got there! So ok, no emergency, we get settled. Call the desk and hour later the repair guys show up (now I suspect they were very busy elsewhere in the hotel). Snake doesn't work. So they take off the wall mirror and cut a huge hole in the wall with a giant saw. Pleasant, yes? Wonder what the neighbors thought? Ok an hour later they are done. No word from management that maybe we should be comped even a little, so when I talked to someone who appeared to management, he was really gruff, aggravated and suggested perhaps we were negligent. I suggested that housekeeping should have reported the problem and the room not rented until repaired--the excuse? Housekeeping staff is new. So either they knew, or didn't clean the room, or whatever, but now I know there should be compensation. And they agreed to an upgrade--nice, since we are here only one night and they are sold out...and without an apology or respect it was thrown out with great disgust that we could have a discount.
I really believe we should not have paid anything at all. If the room needed construction-- and yes we were in the room the whole time it was happening-- then they should not have rented it out. They should have asked if we wanted to move BEFORE the big saw came out, but I think they were overbooked.I think they were jammed and gave out all the rooms including substandard ones that needed work. They had huge numbers of tour buses, and those customers are obviously more valuable than the no tour folks, yes? Managed to squeeze one more tourist for an extra $134 bucks? If the tours complained, I bet there would be some positive action.
I do not think it is safe or healthy to do construction while customers are in the room, not to mention unprofessional and plain rude.
THEN a hallway full of cigarette in a no smoking hotel. The front desk said "oh what a shame" yeah I guess a big shame and fire code issue and health problem. Just one of many shames.
I think it is unhealthy that housekeeping left a lavatory full of water, for a guest to report. Let's just say I used my own coffee mugs.
I guess a portable, noisy A/C unit is better than nothing in the 95F room. Was almost ok by 11PM.
I think we should have gotten our money back.
Don't stay here unless you have time and patience to inspect your room, and are ready to move after a long day of travel when things turn nasty.
Maybe better yet just don't stay here.
1. When I made the reservation, I requested no feathers of any kind in the room since I am very allergic to feathers. 5 of the 6 pillows were feather pillows. When I took the feather pillows to the desk, I was told "we have no feather pillows in our hotel." I was told this WHILE the pillows were laying on the front desk. 2. The a/c did not work and the room was over 85 degrees. "Open the window" was the desk clerks response. There was a huge A/C unit on the roof right outside the window that was extremely loud right outside the window. What can you expect for $109 per night? Do you really expect a cool comfortable room, then shame on you. 3. The next AM I requested a room with a working A/c. Shame on me for requesting that. I did receive an excellent education on how NOT to treat guests. As each new guest would approach the desk, the clerk would leave trying to resolve my problem and address this new guest's problem. Most of these guests also had A/c that did not work. The desk clerk handled over 20 different people before "resolving" my problem. Many of these guest said "he (referring to me) was here first" still the clerk would leave me to go take care of these new people. 4. The new room did have an A/c that blew cold air, BUT it did not have enough BTU capacity to cool down the room. But this room was on the 5th floor and so we could open the windows and as LONG AS WE LEFT THE ROOM DOOR OPEN the room would stay cool enough to sleep. This new room cost $136 per night. Can you reasonably expect to get a cool comfortable place to sleep for $135 per night? 5. The new room also had feather pillows. Same song and dance. I take 5 feather pillows and lay them on the front desk, they tell me "we have no feather pillows in our hotel, we changed them all for some kind of gel pillows." 6. They saved the best surprise for last! I woke up the 2nd AM with my eyes swollen shut. After removing the bedspread from the 2nd bed, I find a feather duvet hiding under the mattress. Pretty good joke right? I did learn that if you YELL and CUSS the front desk will give you a discount on your bill. I firmly believe that you should not have to yell and cuss to get good customer service. If you are forced to YELL and CUSS to get the front desk to address any problem then this proves there is no customer service. But then again, what can you expect for $109 and $136 per night?
There were no toiletries, even at the front desk. Breakfast was stale and dried out. Only carbs, unless you like old boiled eggs. Milk was sour..... Ick. Our window air unit did not keep the room cool. The refrigerator was warm... Terrible. Do not stay here. But, the bed was ok.
