"Great little hotel in a small town"
Reviewed Jun 16, 2013

My daughter had finished a softball tournament in Beaumont, so we started heading home afterwards. Well, we got tired, so decided to stay over in Winnie and head home the following day. We booked a room at this hotel, and got a king double room suite there. The room was outstanding. Very spacious, and great amenities. This room had a sofa bed and a large king bed in a large separate room. Kids enjoyed this because it was like they had there own room. This room also had a small kitchenette area, with cabinets, microwave, mini fridge, and a sink. Bathroom was large with two doors leading into it. Room also had two flat screen TVs in each room and two A/C units. Breakfast the next morning was good for being a continental style. They had breakfast tacos, biscuits, sausages, muffins, toast, bagels, cereal, and waffles. Also had coffee, apple juice, orange juice, and milk. All in all, great hotel for being in a small town. Would stay again if we ever end up in this area again.
Hotel was clean. Not an impressive area, but it served the purpose for a one night stay. Close to Galveston, so you can avoid the high prices of Galveston if you don't mind not being in the center of anything. We thought it was priced a little high, and the view of the dilapidated, closed restaurant is less than appealing.
We stayed at this motel for the second time & I have to say that I give this motel excellent in all but value. Although the price is within reason, I just believe most motels are overpriced. Will stay at the Winnie La Quinta again, whenever we are in the area.
We planned an overnight in Winnie as a base for some birding stops and chose La Quinta. Although our room ended up being next to the elevator, we heard no elevator noises nor foot traffic outside the room on a saturday night. From La Quinta we could walk over to Winnie's colorful Al T's restaurant, always an interesting spot for people watching and decent food. The room was clean and well appointed, kind bed and pillows were comfortable (and I'm picky about pillows). Wifi worked well. Shower pressure was not super, but having adjustable spray helped. Commode had some sort of turbo-charged flusher! Loud but unlikely to get stopped up! Only disappointment was that the refrigerator had no freezer section for our cooler ice packs. Breakfast had the standard fare, waffles, cereal, packaged muffins/danish, but with a step up in having one hot plate with biscuits, decent breakfast egg/sausage burrito, and those fake omelets. Juice in pitchers was a nice change from dispensers, and there was a bowl of fruit -- bananas, apples and such. It wasn't the cheapest stay for a small town at $85 plus tax (reservations made same week on line) but we were pleased with the facility.
We found the Staff to be extremely courteous, the rooms very clean and the beds super comfortable. They also have a great choice of breakfast items. Would highly recommend to travelers. We will definitely plan to stay there again on our next trip to Texas.
