"loud barking dogs all night long!!!!"

My wife and I travel regularly and the in the last few months have stayed at the La Quinta Properties in Los Angeles, Florida and this week in Sedona Arizona.
Unfortunately our stay in Sedona was horrible and will likely be the end of any visits we make to any La Quinta Properties. We checked in on May 15 for a 3 night stay and in the very early hours of May 16 were rudely awakened by the loud barking of several dogs in the next room. I discussed this with the front desk attendant who told me that there was nothing they could or would do. Worse, they accused us of being dog haters and said there was no way they could have known we hated dogs, and even if they did there was nothing they would do because of corporate policy. Well first of all we own and love two dogs which were are home being watched over by friend. I do not hate dogs, and I do not have a problem with Hotel/Motels allowing them.
I do feel I was ripped off however, and then insulted repeadly. I paid $100 for a night in which I expected La Quinta to provide a safe, quiet room in which to relax and sleep. La Quinta did not provide that at all and the staff displayed no interest in even trying to do so. What we got was a room filled with so much loud barking it was like we were adjoining a kennel. I feel therefore we are entitled to a refund of the first night?s cost. We stayed a second night only because we did not have time to check out, but we did check out on the morning of what would have been our third night, after being further harassed by the night manager when we simply asked if La Quinta could try and not put another group of loudly barking dogs next to our room. Again we were told they had no way to accommodate dog haters (which we are not, and we were very much offended by the accusation)
The staff repeatedly accused us of being dog haters and said that La Quinta Corporate Policy prohibited them from segregating the loud dogs or simply setting up a portion of the hotel as a quiet area for those customers simply wanting a quiet environment in which to sleep.
I am very disappointed in La Quinta's policies, and the staff in Sedona who were rude, defensive and very unpleasant when we were simply trying to get a quite night's rest.
We have stayed in many La Quintas as we travel across the country. Most of them have been very pleasant. We had some points with them so we used them to book one night at this hotel. It was very disappointing. It does have great views but that's the only good thing that I can say. The first room they gave us smelled awful so we asked to change it. The second room did not smell but it was so sparsely furnished that it looked as if it were a room in a monastery! The breakfast the next morning was one of the worst that I have ever seen. There were very limited choices and nothing looked appetizing. We would never stay there again. There are many reasonably priced hotels in the area that are much better!
We have stayed at this locale (Village of Oak Creek is on the highway between I-17 and Sedone city limits) several times when going to Sedona for a few days of hiking. The location is perfect for being close to several trailheads and many of the beautiful Red Rock formations all all within view.. Once the car is parked back at the hotel at the end of the day, one can walk to dinner to a clean, good cafe just across the street (Full Moon Cafe). Hotel is clean although carpet is showing wear. Standard breakfast (cold cereal, instant oatmeal, waffles, bagels, mini muffins, juice, milk and coffee. Hard boiled eggs, biscuits and gravy were also served) available each a.m. Continental style. Noise from room to room not too bad - in the still of the night one can hear neighbor's air conditioner running if you are a light sleeper like me. Pet friendly hotel with designated area to 'walk the dog' .
I just signed-up with Trip Advisor, so this is long overdue. This was easily one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at.....dead roaches on the floor and desk, pubic hair on the floor and in the sink, and lots of hair on the floor, in the bed sheets, and on the wall???
La Quinta sent me the online customer satisfaction survey and I gave them an honest assessment of my visit. In less than a few hours I got a call from the hotel. To my surprise, the hotel challegned me on my feedback, almost implying I was making it up or that I must be referring to another hotel?? I wasn't expecting a refund, just some sort of acknowledgement that things could have been better. To convice her, she asked that I send her my pictures. As such, I made the effort and sent around 10 pics of the various roaches, hair, etc. Never heard a word back!! No apololgy, no acknowledgement, no nothing.
I talked to with La Quinta's corporate customer service a few weeks later and they assured me someone would address the situation. Never heard a word back and never staying at this hotel again.
Most of the hotels in the Sedona area can get very expensive---starting from $200/$300 a night. However, this gem is only $100 a night, and you can even get a room upgrade to have the beautiful sedona mountains in your window the next day. As someone who brings my dogs everywhere, this pet-friendly hotel was the perfect match for my family. The location is also very close to all the big hikes: Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock. These are also where the vortexes are. You are actually closer to the vortexs staying in Oak Creek. There are some cute eateries, ours favorite was the pizza place next door to this La Quinta, and it was refreshing to get away from the extreme tourism of Sedona and truly enjoy the scenery of the place. I highly reccommend this place!!!
