"DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY !!"

We stayed April 11 through the 13 th. This is the worst run hotel I have ever stayed in. We arrived at 5:30 pm and our rooms was not cleaned and could not check in until around 6:15. When we did get in our room there was no shampoo available in the entire hotel. They were completely OUT ! Our group will NEVER waste our time or money on this poorly run La Quinta inn property !
I asked for and called to confirm an early check in since I knew I would have a long drive into SC giving me time to freshen up. When I arrived I as informed they were booked the night before and they could not honor my early check in. The exterior of the building is outdated (looks a bit sketchy) and the limited parking left me parking in a neighboring parking lot from the hotel. When I did get into the room it was clean, no odors but the mirror in the room was discolored and should be replaced. The shower went from burning hot to freezing cold while I was in it; would absolutely be fearful putting a minor in the shower. Vending machine was "exact change" and not stocked. The room contains a recliner, king size bed, dresser, 2 night stands, refrigerator, microwave, large tv, coffee maker, alarm clock, hair dryer, iron, ironing board and one very little trash can. If you are only needing a place to sleep it will fit the bill but if you want to have a night place to incorporate into a vacation, this is not the place to stay. I was on business and will not stay there for future trips. In addition,There were other guests shouting outside at all hours of the night(specifically 1:42am). The breakfast was good but very cramped quarters; People all on top of each other :-(
Clean and a very pleasant staff. Away from the business of downtown. Was the Cooper Bridge Marathon weekend and it didn't phase the staff it was really nice and refreshingly relaxing. Stayed for 5 nights. Excellent mattresses too.

This is one of those you had to be there moments. Check in is 3:00 pm. We got there at 4:15pm. Noticed the breakfast area was full of people just sitting looking like deer in headlights. Sign on the checkin desk "be back in 5 minutes". He was. Then started calling peoples names and people sitting started going up to the desk. Everyone was apparently getting different rooms. He finally got to me. Checkin was smooth, no problems, then he said "this is your room but it isn't ready". I ask and he responded that he had no clue when it would be ready. I had to be at the Citadel at 6:oopm and needed to change. Not his problem. Ended up driving to the Citadel and found a Marriott and changed in their lobby restroom. Got back to the LaQinta at approximately 10:00 pm and our room had been cleaned. Tired, climbed into bed and had just fallen asleep when my cell phone rings. It is the LaQuinta front desk wanting to know if I am going to check in. I informed them that I was already in and prior to their call asleep. He hangs up without even an apology for disturbing me. The next morning I opened the refrigerator and found the previous guest take out boxes there. Went in to take a shower and the dirty wash cloth in the shower was a special touch. Forgot to mention that during the checkin process, many upset people kept asking for the manager. When I was in the lobby the next morning I found out who the manager was and remembered her leaving during all the confusion the previous day. Sign of a great leader, when things are all going bad, bail out. In over 40 years of travel I have never stayed at a worst property anywhere in the world. It sits under a exit ramp, yes under a expressway ramp, from the expressway on 2 sides. Rooms haven't been renovated since the civil war, and yes that's how old this property appears to be. The backing on the bathroom mirror is almost completely gone, carpets are something you don't want to touch in your bare feet, and over all I can't believe any hotel chain would allow their name to be connected to this property. I am so upset after this experience that I am currently in the process of canceling 12 advance reservations with LaQuinta and rebooking with other chains. Please, do yourself a favor and do not stay at this property.
We stayed here at the beginning and end of our Carolina visit for a total of 6 days and couldn't be more pleased. They gave us a great AAA rate and extended it when we kept adding on to our original reservation even though it was a weekend AND they didn't charge us for our first night even though we had to cancel very late at night after we were stranded in Atlanta and couldn't get to Charleston. The room and breakfast were very adequate and every attempt was made to keep us happy. Also there is a great tourist shuttle express that goes from the North Charleston visitors center right downtown so everything was convenient from this location. We will definitely stay in La Quinta Inns again after this experience.
