"BRANDED BY THE IRON"
Reviewed Jun 3, 2013
A La Quinta traveler |
Carpet dirty and "branded" by a hot iron someone must have dropped while ironing their clothes, also on carpet rings of rust from metal legs of dresser. Front of dresser had slashes on the wood and piece of corner of drawer missing.
Very poor lighting over bathroom vanity making impossible to put on make up; not much better over the desk. Bathroom curtain old and torn (plenty of clean bath towels though).
When first walked in room had bad smell of burned food, and sure enough it came from dirty microwave which I had to clean myself as well as the rest of room in order to be able to stay there because there was no other room available. Lady at front desk named Sasha was quite nice, polite and apologetic but could not do much since there were no other vacant rooms and she explained everyone from house keeping had already gone home (???)
Besides, this poor young lady was all by herself at front desk as well as answering all the phone calls. She did get me some extra disposable cups, soaps, and wash cloths, since I had used the wash cloths to clean all the surfaces of the smelly room.
The two double beds were clean and comfortable with 3 pillows each.
The complementary continental breakfast was good; the usual machine dispensing OJ, apple juice and coffee. Also had bagels, bread slices, and blueberry muffins. There was a large container of cereal and pitcher of milk as well as a waffle maker and toaster. Trays of packets of 2 types of jellies, cream cheese, peanut butter, and margarine. Also some fresh oranges and bananas. Another tray of yogurts, teas, and hot chocolate packets. It did offer much more than what I normally eat for breakfast. The lady attendant named Dulce was very nice and kept the breakfast area clean and well supplied.
Elevators were clean and quickly available and my room was right next to elevator so that was quite convenient. One problem was only one ice machine on the ground floor for the entire hotel.
The location was very conveniently close to the place I was attending for 3 days. Also nearby were several restaurants, drugstores and shopping centers.
I voiced my complaint to the front desk attendant and she left notes for the manager. Manager Mike called me today apologizing and offered a refund of one night's rate.
Although not impressed at all I would probably give it a second chance and stay there again mostly because of the very convenient location.
Very polite staff, quick check in. We both slept great. The bed and pillows were wonderful. We also loved the towels. The location was convenient. Only a few miles from our destination and close to everything we needed. The only part of our stay we didn't enjoy was leaving too soon.
Pluses: Location was good - right off I-95 and close to Okeechobee Blvd. Plenty of restaurants and shopping nearby. Probably a good hotel for business travelers. Our room was clean and comfortable. Staff courteous. Brightside breakfast okay. I saw bagels, cereal, hardboiled eggs, waffles, orange juice, coffee.
Negatives: No outdoor entrance to room, which is my personal preference. All rooms open off interior hallways. Hallways were dingy looking and need paint and new carpeting. Air in our room smelled stale. I couldn't open a window to allow fresh air in. Not enough parking. Hard to find a spot. Pool very uninviting. No landscaping to speak of - adjoins parking lot. No ice machine on our floor. We had to go down to the first floor to find one.
Paid by cash on day three of a four day stay, Now 30 days later they cannot "find" any evidence of that happening. Have to drive over two hours back there to "prove" I paid my bill in cash. What a rip off. 371.00 on my credit card when it was already paid in cash!!
Staff was friendly enough, but the hotel is not in very good shape. Supposedly I was on a non-smoking floor, but the carpet near the bed, plus the stuffed chair, had 20+ cigarette burns. Additionally, the next day my clothes smelled of smoke. The room was only just clean--everything at the hotel seemed "tired" and in need of a good cleaning and painting. It was inexpensive for W. Palm Beach, but more than it was worth anywhere else.
