"Dated but clean and friendly with reasonable prices"
4 of 5 stars Reviewed Apr 17, 2014

We came to the Sarasota area to meet with old friends, and most of us stayed at La Quinta. We thought we were getting a price break at $129/night but a quick check showed that depending on the week you come in April, the room price can be as low as $90 so bargaining or using a AAA or other card might be helpful for getting the best possible rate. The hotel is very close (1.5 miles or so) from Sarasota and an easy drive to nearby barrier islands. There was free parking around building so if you wish to, you can usually have your car be visible from your room. Walking in the front door feels nice with a wide open lobby with a high vaulted ceiling and a nice pastel color scheme. The attached breakfast room is a bit small and one of many areas in the hotel that has a slightly plastic, art deco feel. All of the staff at the front desk with pleasant and very helpful. The on-site exercise room is very small with only 3 cardiovascular devices, a bike, treadmill and elliptical. There is also a warm, pleasant but somewhat small small pool. The lobby has a distressed wood floor, which is clean and somewhat odd but aesthetically fine, but once you get in the somewhat dark hallways you're on older worn carpets. The stairwells are old mostly clean bare concrete. There is only a single elevator, which means that in busy times there can be a bit of a wait. The "front" rooms face Highway 41 but night noise is not bad. Breakfast is actually fairly good with a reasonably healthy selection of fruits, cereals, hard boiled eggs, yoghurt and juices, mixed in with the usual "fun" but questionable choices of waffles, muffins, breads and the like. If you're a bit of a coffee snob (I'm guilty!), the stuff they brew is not very appetizing but just 10 minutes away by car in the very attractive downtown area is a nice Starbucks and a great (really good coffees, and sandwiches made to order--Yummm) bakery/cafe/coffee place called Pastry Art. We had a 3rd floor king facing the front, therefore the highway. First things first, it was clean and smelled good. It has a small area of the same distressed wood at the entry, which gives way to older, worn carpet in the rest of the room. There are plain but nicely painted walls, with no art, but 3 nice mirrors. There were nice touches like end tables on both sides of bed; good drawer space; a modern TV with good channel movie selection; a fridge and microwave; a very clean nice, comfy not too hard or soft bed with lots of pillows, for which we got an extra blanket from the front desk; separation of the shower and toilet from the sink area; a very nice, large sink area with a large counter top and a great idea of an equally large wood slat shelf for extra storage under the sink. There were small helpful extras like an in-room coffee maker, hair dryer and iron/ironing board. The closet was small with limited hangers and curtain closure. "Products" included soap and shampoo only (no lotions), but they were reasonable quality. Then there were the issues that come from age and a limited upkeep budget like older slightly out of repair tub and toilet, light shades a bit ragged on the edges, rough paint edges near the bases of all appliances and a most floor/wall junctions, stains on the small couch, which however had a cute art deco footstool, and dated but colorful art deco colors and shapes to some lamps. There was a good shower with stable temperatures and pressure. They have good big white towels. And we slept well because the sturdy AC unit near the window kept the noise of the highway "covered". The water everywhere in the area but especially noted in the hotel has a VERY unpleasant "sulfury" taste so bring water for any drinking in the room, and NEVER brew coffee with it, YUCK!

"great location"

The location is real close to the bridge to st armands and lido beach. Also not too far from siesta key. Breakfast included was a nice perk and had quite a bit to choose from: yogurt, bagels, hard boiled eggs, make your own waffles, muffins, cereal, juice, coffee, and fruit. Nice staff and clean rooms. Heated pool was nice after being at the beach to relax in. Great weekend stay.

"Clean sheets and great location"

A comfortable room, a decent matress and clean sheets is all we ask for and we received this at the La Quinta. Many hotels in this area at this price point are of poor quality. The location is 10min away from Lido beach, one of the best in FL, and the St. Armands Circle with great dining options.

"Nice but old."

The staff was great. Room was clean but the facility is old - the AC smelled like it needed some cleaning. Bathroom needed some maintenance. Pet friendly is great!!! We were pleased with it however we felt that it was a bit overpriced.

"Enjoyed my stay!"

I just returned from a stay at the La Quinta in Sarasota from April 2nd thru April 9th, 2014 and I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Traveling with my sister and in town to visit my mom who was staying with her cousin who lives in Sarasota, we were looking for a decent hotel in the area. The hotel seems a bit older but is in pretty good shape. The beds were extremely comfortable, the bedding was soft and the pillows just right. I had no problem falling asleep at night. The hotel was very quiet and secure. We were impressed that they had a security guard walking around at night. Our room had a refrigerator which was great for water and snacks. Also a microwave which seemed a bit old but we did not use it. The bathroom was decent and the shower had great water pressure and you have plenty of hot water in the morning. I appreciated the fact that the sink with a large mirror was outside the shower area so two people could get ready at the same time. Our room overlooked the nice heated pool out back and we had a view of a beautiful sunset every night. Every morning complimentary continental breakfast was served downstairs. Coffee was great and toast, muffins, bagels, waffels, cereal, juice and yogurt were ready and waiting. What my sister and I noticed right away and everyday we were there is that the hotel smelled clean. The front lobby and breakfast area were always neat and clean. This hotel was in a great location and was an easy jumping off point for all beaches and sites around the area. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. A special thank you to the individual from housekeeping who cleaned our room everyday!
