"Nice hotel even if you're just passing through"

We looked up the La Quinta in Clovis on Trip Advisor and rented the "Jacuzzi" suite (2br, 1 king bed) for a quick layover on the way home to Houston.
The only complaint was the wifi - the coverage was spotty in our room (106) and forced you to log on repeatedly. It would not have been a problem except AT&T had no coverage in Clovis. Not a show stopper, but a little aggravating.
Long story short - the staff was nice, the room was HUGE (too big, actually), the bed was comfortable, and the free breakfast was tasty. If we are going through Clovis again we'd definitely stay here again.
Dogs in the hotel. Pool "broken" but they did offer us to go across the street and use holiday inn pool for free. All 3 ice makers broken. We had a suite with 3 kids and the room only had 2 towels! Asked for extra got 2 more. Great we can all almost bathe:) breakfast was decent, standard waffles, powdered eggs, etc. staff was friendly but overall the hotel could've been better.
"This LaQuinta doesn't "pad" their reviews. GREAT place to stay!"

I travel between S. Texas and Taos, NM, by way of Lubbock a few times a year. My little dog travels with me. I stumbled upon this LaQuinta two trips ago. It was such a good stay that I made note in my phone to stay here again. It isn't on the highway that I would normally travel getting thru Clovis, but I found that if I just followed the directions on my iPhone to this address, the 7 mile drive to get to it isn't bad. Coming from the south, the directions take me out around Clovis and there is very little traffic on the county road, and no lights, so I'm thinking it's actually quite a bit quicker than if I stayed right in Clovis and had to get to a motel through all of the traffic lights.
Ok, now here is my reason for the title I put on this review. I've read and believed reviews on these kinds of travel sites many times in the past and about 50% of the time I've had to wonder where in the world some of the "ONE TIME" reviewers got their information from. Obviously, they are either the owners "padding" their 5 star reviews, or the people doing the reviewing don't expect much of anything for their money. Anyway, enough said about that. I can tell you, very honestly, that this hotel REALLY is a good hotel. I know the reviews are honest here because its such a nice place that they don't have to cheat to have a good rating like some of the other hotels do.
The grounds are clean and neat and well-kept. The lobby does not smell of old stale cigarette smoke as so many hotels do nowadays. It smells clean when you walk in. I've been greeted each time by a very pleasant and polite desk clerk, and I'm given a "goodie bag" with a bottle of water, a couple of Oreo cookies and I forget what else. Its'a nice touch by the owners, that makes me feel welcome, and quenches my thirst and quells my hunger as soon as I get to my room. Smart owners! I travel with my dog everywhere I go by means of road trips. Most hotels put me in rooms where the carpet is either dirty or discolored or shabby, or all of these, and less well cared for than their non-pet rooms. So I'm accustomed to not being in a really nice room no matter where I stay. I have found the beds at this hotel to be as comfortable as any other. The linens are clean and there are plenty of pillows. I love that they do not use fabric softener in their towels because they absorb better, and I also love that their towels are white. Not yellow, not gray, no smudges. White. Clean. The AC worked perfectly and the room stayed cool. When I asked for a quiet room on the 1st floor, that's exactly what I got. Hey! The desk clerks actually listen at this hotel!! Imagine that. And she gave me a tip on where to eat, which turned out to be not great, but reasonable and fairly good. There was a working fridge, microwave and coffee pot. The shower had good water pressure so I washed my hair, and the plumbing drained well too. I could tell you some horror stories about non-draining plumbing (ick), but not at this LaQuinta. Checkout was a breeze the next morning. I would have stayed here again on the return trip, but my husband, who had flown in to meet me in Albuquerque, was driving on the way home. You know how men want to drive til you're tongue is hanging out? Well... we didn't stop in Clovis on the way home.
Folks, this is really a nice place to stay. It is reasonably priced, clean, pet friendly and easy to find. You will not be disappointed....especially if you travel with your pet. And I felt safe there.
We stayed here on our way to Colorado - two families (4 adults, 7 kids total). We each had rooms with two queens and a sofa sleeper, and the rooms were exceptionally large. I don't know if we were given accessible rooms that were abnormally large or if this is just par for that size of room, but the space was a nice surprise after a long day on the road with kids. The staff was very helpful and even lent me a step ladder for making adjustments to the roof carrier on my car. My only complaint was the coffee was pretty poor, but maybe it was just an off day. We definitely would stay again.
Loved this hotel. Nice indoor pool with hot tub. Spacious room, we had to queens and a couch for our family of 5. Very clean. Staff very polite and friendly. Breakfast buffet superb. No problems at all allowing our 140 lb dog in he room with us. The thing I liked most about this location was such a simple thing... the larger to-go coffee cups and the flavored creamers made me a very happy lady.
