"Pet friendly, but smells like pets"

A La Quinta traveler |
Overall clean and friendly but realized during the night that there was a strong odor of pet urine and found the bed skirt saturated with urine. That's the downsize of pet friendly hotels. Also we found the manager leaving our room with the $10 housekeeping gratuity in his hand after he thought we had left the property. Always hand the tip directly to housekeeper if you can find them. Would not stay at this location again, but still loyal to the La Quinta brand.

Third stay in a LaQuinta drIving cross-country from Massachusetts to CA...room was clean, staff friendly, but because we were Travelling with a dog, we needed to use the (very nice) pet area....problem was this area is next to a 24 hour laundromat and we were approached by two men the first time....they seemed to surround us and one said something about "spare change". There was another single lady near us and she got nervous as well and said she was going to call security...I went to the front desk to ask for security and was informed that the only security they had were the cameras and pointed to the screen showing several areas in and around the hotel! The front desk agent, when I asked, said she was workin alone all night !!! So even if she DID see these men as a threat to us, what could she do other than call the police? My daughter and I were approached on three different occasions by different men each time while trying to go outside."finally used the front door of the hotel to take the dog out when it got dark....this unacceptable and LaQuinta needs to hire some security guards for this property! I am a Rewards Member and used my points for a free night - my total cost was $5.36. Not too shabby. The room didn't smell of smoke or musty. the room was clean. the pool was a bit murky but not enough for my daughter and sister in law to swim in it. The breakfast was good - I had biscuits and gravy. Everything I had was warm and delicious. The front desk staff was polite and helpful. If ever in these neck of the woods I would definitely stay again.

"On the east side of Gallup"

Gallup is limited in its choices but it is the only significant town between Flagstaff and Albuquerque. Unfortunately, this means the prices are higher than most. We stayed at the La Quinta because it was pet friendly. Our cats were very happy with the accommodations. Breakfast included meat and bacon. The location is very convenient to the interstate. Did not have any issues. Staff was friendly. Bed was soft. I was able to see the train outside our window but did not hear it. Would stay there again.

"I did not feel safe"

Although this hotel met my basic needs, it is showing some serious wear and tear. I paid more for my night here than I did at any other LaQuinta driving across country, and two of them were open less than six months and had the modern La Quinta furnishings and were spotless. More disturbing, however, was the lack of security and the shady characters lurking around the parking lot. The "campground" (really? do people really camp there?) and laundromat next door are magnets for panhandlers who then prey on LQ guests. I was approached in the afternoon when unloading, and then very aggressively the next morning at 5 AM in the dark by a male asking for money. He startled me to the point that I felt ill. I drove almost 7,000 miles on this trip with no problems and thus am obviously not an easily scared person. Although the hotel is dog-friendly, there is not a single blade of grass anywhere around the hotel. The "campground" has about 500 signs banning pets from any of its areas. There are fairly clean rocks around the hotel, but everything else is filled with trash and debris. I would never take my dogs in that fenced pet area at the hotel - it reeks of urine and needs a good disinfecting. The sign in the lobby says they'll be refurbishing and updating soon. But I would not return here due to the security issues under any circumstances.
