"Tired and dated"

My husband was diagnosed with cancer and we very quickly needed to be at MD Anderson there was a NRA and OTC conference in town so all hotels were booked First I was upset that even though we have over 40000 points with la Quinta we were told could not use them -so much for free nights when you need them All they had was 2 double beds which was ok but every time I asked if there was a king I was told I had to check back daily and they would not call me if one was available or reserve it for us. The rooms were very dark and dated and you could not see out of the one window that was there due to some sort of film all over it so could not get any natural light making the rooms dark and depressing There were too few tables for breakfast and items not restocked on regular basis the microwave in room set precariously on top of fridge. The shuttle to medical center quit at 4:30 pm so not practical for most all day appt. or visitation The staff seemed curt and not helpful. All in all I was very disappointed and would not stay here again unless they had a complete remodel. By far the worse La Quinta I have ever stayed in

other than the sink not draining properly, my stay passed my expectations. I would definitely stay there again. Great location to restuarants. Easy to locate. Very quiet. I felt safe staying there alone.

"Not pleased"

This is the crappiest La Quinta I have ever been in. I've stayed in Motel6's that were better. If you have to spend much time in room, look elsewhere. I guess it would be OK for just sleeping. The service at the desk was excellent and prompt. Everything explained and directions to room given. At the room, things went downhill FAST. The room smelled. There was even an ozone production device plugged in. The A/C did not cool properly. The noise from the freeway was quite noticeable. I had previously stayed at the La Quinta Galleria, which is also next to the freeway, and never heard a sound of traffic. The paint on the door to the bath was chipped and dingy. The carpet was quite worn. The only reason I did not ask for another room is because I was not feeling well after just having chemotherapy. I will not stay at this location again. I suggest major renovations or just tear down and re-build. At checkout, I mentioned the smell and the A/c problem. The desk person adjusted my bill, which was nice.

"Best Service Experienced"
3 of 5 stars Reviewed Apr 22, 2013

If service were the only measure, I would give this facility a TEN! The front desk attendant, Raven, was courteous, knowledgeable, helpful, respectful and an overall VERY pleasant person. The shuttle drivers were outstanding! I drove my sister to Houston with the expectation that I would be shuttling her to her appointments at MDA, but I soon learned that this La Quinta Shuttle Service was staffed with the most compassionate, considerate and dependable drivers that we have met. Both Calvin and James were well known to passengers, most of whom were repeat Medical Center riders. Onboard discussions centered on their exceptional attentiveness and dependability. Their service, alone, is enough to book this facility for Medical Center use. The housekeeping staff were courteous and easily accessible. I had booked an 8-night stay, so I did not expect housekeeping to call more than twice. Each day a housekeeping staff politely tapped my door to check to see if I needed anything like clean towels. They replenished my towels, supplied an extra bed linen set for the recliner one of my party used for sleeping, cleared my trash, supplied directions to my questions and told me to call, if I needed anything. Upon arrival the room was clean and well stocked. The Bright Side Breakfast had much variety and supply for most tastes. It was available promptly at 06:00 with fresh fruit, hot and cold breakfast cereals, dairy, juices, breads and muffins, equipment for waffles, condiments, etc. There was sufficent room to move around in the self-serve section and seating in the dining section. This was another 5-Star area. So, why a 3-Star rating ... the constuction of the facility was cramped. The structure was WEDGED on a corner lot bordered by the freeway access to 610S and Buffalo Speedway, so there was limited movement and parking space for a 3-story structure. The Special Needs facilities were POOR. Door entry accesses for woefully inadequate, ramps were too steep and completely inaccessible for an independent wheelchair bound client. Even clients on walkers NEEDED an attendant to help navigate the "scarry" ramps. I reserved a King ADA unit that was correctly placed on the ground floor along with two other King ADA units. However, there was handicapped parking for only two spaces. Another special needs client and I discussed why there were not a least enough labeled spaces to accommodate the available labeled accessible units when I had to try and find a nearby space to squeeze in my wheelchair van since the only available spaces were occupied. Because of the limited lot size, there was only marginal loading for a wheelchair van at the lobby entrance and only one of the non-ADA lobby entrance door that opened. And, someone other than a wheelchair bound client had to hold the door open. Access to the lobby from the accessible units had to be accomplished by VERY carefully navigating a TOO STEEP and irregular ramp, then try to prop open the single opening lobby door. The more appropriate side access would have been sufficient were it not for the the 3-step stair to get down to the lobby floor. SUGGESTION TO MANAGEMENT: It should not be too expensive to replace the 3 steps at the side entrance with a ramp. Those of us who are not yet mobility limited have no problem walking up/down ramps. And, those who are in our party who ambulate with the use of walkers and wheelchairs are not barred access to other facility amenities. I will continue to use this facility for the expected routine weekly visits I project my sister will need to make to the Houston Medical Center SOLELY because of the exceptional shuttle service. But, if all La Quintas layout their Special Needs facilities in this manner, this will be the ONLY LQ I will book. .
