We booked this hotel because we had a dog show in the area and many of our friends and colleagues decided to book here. When i started looking at the reviews I became slightly concerned but decided to give it a chance. I did have a second concern when I called the hotel to modify our reservation to arrive one day earlier. I spoke with Wade, who i later learned was the general manager of the hotel. He asked for my name to look up the reservation and when it immediately didn't come up I asked if I could give him the confirmation number for our reservation. He told me that it wouldn't help. Confirmation numbers weren't really used at this hotel. So I asked why did they have them then? He said he didn't know, but people ask for them so they give them a number but it's random and they can't tell anything about the reservation based on the number. That should have been a major red flag but we decided to just stick with it. And he did finally find my reservation and we modified the reservation. When we checked in we were greeted by a very nice clerk (Josh) who quickly got us set up in the room we had requested. I had booked the hotel in my name which is different from my husband's last name. So I asked if he needed to be on the room in case we lose a key. He can get one without having me present. The Clerk said it was not necessary and wouldn't be a problem if he asked for the key. When we got to our room i started checking all the things others who have reviewed this hotel have been dissatisfied with. The room was clean, looked recently renovated. Sparkling white sheets with no mystery stains. Bathroom was clean and good sized. And within about 1/2 hour of checking in, the clerk called up to our room to make sure there were no problems and to see if we needed anything. So far, I was pleasantly surprised and hadn't really run into any of the problems that others mentioned. The hotel is in a great location and had a lot of delicious restaurants within walking distance. This hotel also had a lot of good dog walking and pottying space with fresh clean grass. The next day i took two of my dogs out for a walk without my key because my husband was still in the room. When I walked back inside the lobby I saw my husband at the front desk asking about getting a key with Wade (the general manager). I guess when he left he forgot his key as well. Well, of course because his name was not on the room because the previous clerk told us it wouldn't be necessary. I walked up and told him what the previous clerk told us it wasn't necessary. Wade just asked if i could provide my id to get a key to the room. I told him it was up in the room and i didn't have it. He said, "well that will be a problem". I said, well it wouldn't be a problem if yesterday they would have added my husbands name to the room. Wade then told us that it was "impossible" to add another name to a reservation. I said, so don't add it to the reservation, just add it as the second person staying in the room. It was booked as having two people in the room. It has been standard procedure at every other hotel to know the names of the people staying in the room besides the person who booked the room. He said, even that was not possible. I was infuriated. How stupid. Then he had me "escorted" to my room with an employee, who I would say was either a janitor or a handyman on the property to "verify" my ID. the problem was, this employee could not speak any English and simply opened the door and left! The next morning my husband was down eating breakfast and we up to a nice female desk clerk, Marcela, and asked her about adding his name to the room. She said it wasn't a problem and did it right away. So Wade is either totally misinformed regarding the systems he is supposed to be managing or just enjoys being obstinate to the customers. We had other dealings with other front clerks, Tina and Melissa. They were always helpful in getting us extra washcloths late at night. We had Sandy as our housekeeper thru most of our stay. She was always pleasant, happy, and did good work. In fact, many of the housekeepers seemed to be very nice and good workers. The breakfast here was just a glorified continental breakfast. Many other La Quintas have eggs and sausage or bacon. This was just basically, toast, bagels, fruit, oatmeal, cold cereal and you could make your own waffle. Coffee, tea, water, and juice. About the 5th night we were there our truck was burglarized. They took silly things like our dog bag, some CDs, and also some police items. Because of the police items that were taken we called the police to have a report made. We also informed the hotel clerk. She was very helpful and apologetic. She also had us fill out a form for them.When my husband took the form back down the next day, Wade was there. Wade took the form, asked some silly questions, but showed no concern over what had happened or what we had lost. It wasn't the hotels fault and we weren't blaming them. Sometimes these things just happen, but to not even have the manage express concern just really showed how callous and uncaring for his guests he really was. If it wasn't for the fact that all the hotels in the area were booked because of some dog specialties in the area, we would have switched hotels just because this one person made things so exasperating. Overall the rooms and hallways were clean, smelled nice, had decent bed linens. (typical small scratchy towels to wash and dry with), and the bed was extremely comfortable. I slept great every night and never woke up with a neck or back ache. The only thing that didn't work well was the mini fridge in the room. It froze everything despite adjusting the temperature. I would have loved to give this hotel a good rating, but the general manager is a major problem. I will be writing a letter to the owners of the La Quinta franchise to express how much of a problem they have with this particular "manager".
Not enough power outlets in room. Had to chose between having a light on the desk or the refrigerator to be plugged in. Bathroom shower was very dirty..Walls in shower had not been washed in some time. Towels very worn and thin.
This La Quinta has been around for quite a few years and is need of a facelift. Our room could use a thorough cleaning. There are 4 dog shows in town and it seems they are all staying here. La Quinta is very dog-friendly and there has been very little disruption as a result of all the dogs.
The shower head is very low. If you are taller than about 5'5" it's a pain to use. Towels are very thin and scratchy. The bed is comfortable and I slept well, which is the most important part of the stay.
The staff is friendly and helpful. Room rates are very reasonable but I would be willing to pay more if the rooms were refurbished.
AMAZING! Every point of contact with every staff member during my brief stay was friendly, warm, and helpful. Good service seems so rare these days! I would go back even though it was a little out of my way just for the service!
Very helpful friendly staff. Not fancy but a Good value. Nice pool. Good breakfast for no extra charge. Close to highway 15 but not loud. Needs a little fixing up in the bathrooms. Rewards program is good.
