"Poorly maintained, poor value for price, but close to SFO at least"

I've stayed at this hotel on five occasions in the past 18 months. The experience was consistent on each stay, consistently poor. The primary issue is that the rooms aren't well-maintained. I typically stay in mid-priced hotels,am not extremely particular about amenities, realize you get what you pay, and don't expect much, however at this particular La Quinta, you get less than you pay for. I've experienced an AC that didn't work on one occasion, and they weren't able to move me to another room, outlets missing covers, half the lights in the room not working, and outlets only working if you jiggle the outlet (which is probably a sign of an electrical issue).
This particular LQ doesn't provide plastic liners for the ice bucket. That's an uncomfortable feeling, and it's a roll of the dice on what unseen "stuff" your ice might come in contact with once in the bucket. Who knows for what the last guest used the ice bucket. There are also no screens on their windows, so if you want some fresh air in your room, you'll have to be comfortable leaving a window open with nothing to keep out the bugs.
The only food option within reasonable walking distance is Denny's. Other than that, you'll have to search for delivery food, or hop in the car and take a drive. Not all rooms are equipped with a small microwave/fridge.
All that said, from my perspective, the two benefits of staying at this hotel are: it's a short 10 minute drive to the SFO airport. I'm also a smoker, and they offer a few smoking rooms. These two reasons are the only reasons I stay here.
Stayed at this La Quinta the night before our trip to Europe and also on our return. Easy shuttle ride to airport and back and left our car at the La Quinta parking lot the whole time. Great service, restful sleep, nice-sized clean room. Would definitely recommend.
I couldn't be happier with the cleanliness of an obvious pet friendly facility. The carpet and bed linens were on par with a non-pet hotel, much to my delighted surprise. Other guests were diligent about keeping their pets quiet and it was nice to have an attractive, if small, area out back where we could take the dog. Desk staff were all very friendly. And it was nice having the eating area across the hall from the breakfast food facility and not within it.
We stayed here because of the park & fly option and proximity to the airport. We stayed at the beginning and end of a trip to Hawaii and parked our car for a week while we were gone.
While the lobby area was nice, the building we were in (in back of the main hotel building was very run down. Park & Fly rooms were a long walk with luggage to the front desk from another building behind the main hotel. You can definitely smell the produce in the plant right next door. Our reservation was for smoking but we were put in a non-smoking room and had to move. When I called the front desk to ask about it, the front desk clerk lectured me that my reservation was non-smoking, but it clearly said on my copy that room was smoking. The maintenance worker who moved us was very friendly and apologetic. We were glad to move because there was a loud "whistling" noise cause by air drafting under the door and through the window (which was closed). Once moved to a smoking room, the heavy scent of perfumey air freshener was so strong, we had to leave the window open which let in all the noise from the highway all night. Our room on the return trip was better and didn't have such a strong smell.
All other staff were friendly and helpful. No frills, but rooms were clean and bedding was nice. There weren't enough spaces for all of the park & fly customers, so we had to park along the side of the lot by a fence which had me worried someone would hit my car when they backed out of a parking spot, but there were no problems with our vehicle when we returned. My rates were $40.00 more per night than another Park & Fly customer in front of me (possibly he didn't park as long as we did?). We paid @ 135.00 a night which included the parking- he paid $95.00 a night.
It was a little difficult to find/catch shuttle at airport back to hotel as the bus only goes to/from the airport on the half hour. We didn't eat the breakfast at the hotel or use the pool since we would have to walk over to the other building to do so. Overall, the park and fly option was very handy, but we would probably would try to find a nicer hotel to stay at in the future.
This was BY FAR the most disgustingly dirty hotel that we have EVER stayed in.
And, aside from the Denny's in the front, the location is awful. The hotel is located right next to a produce company that disposes of rotten produce and fills the air with an interesting olfactory stimulus, to say the least! The other side is right next to the freeway which is very loud, even in the room
We booked this place primarily because it offered a "Park and Fly" option and because we had stayed only once at a La Quinta while traveling through Nevada which was a great experience... a micro wave, a 'fridge and it was very clean. Well, the "Park and Fly is the ONLY thing that was good the South San Francisco experience.
They have 2 buildings that are separated by railroad tracks and we were placed in the back one on the other side of the tracks from the 1st with the front desk. In order to go to dinner at Denny's we had to cross the tracks and walk right by the rotten produce... not fun and kinda scary. (The pigeons on top of the rotting food seemed to enjoy their meal).
But, far and away, the worst thing about this stay was the lack of cleanliness. The smell when you entered the building was strong with something like a cleaning chemical, which was confusing because our room had not been cleaned. The shower was disgusting. It had mold on the edges, rust on the ceiling, and (I hate to even type this) pubic hair on the edge of the tub!
The room was dark, dingy and small... let alone, of course, no 'fridge or Micro wave.
Not only will I never stay here again, I will never grace the doors of a La Quinta again.
What an awful way to start a vacation
