The hotel has a good location and price for what it offers. Your within 2 miles of the ocean and there are plenty of businesses to cater to your needs. For about $100 night it is a good value. Hotel is clean, offers a good breakfast, room has variety of TV for downtown.

"Over booked our suite!"
3 of 5 stars Reviewed Sep 11, 2014
stangsta | Los Angeles
This will be a winded review so have a seat. This review is for a stay during Nov 2013 for our anniversary. Yes, it's true, they overbooked our suite! I even called them 12 hrs before our eventual check in time to make sure our room would be ready. They told me that our room was ready and waiting for us. So after a long but exciting day in SD, we arrived at this hotel at 5:00pm. The front desk guy, Jerry, curtly greeted me. I should have sensed something was wrong right then. Too tired to let it bother me, I eventually get my keys only to enter a VERY small standard king bed room. "Whoa...sorry babe, they gave us the wrong room." That's right, Jerry didn't even tell me that my suite was unavailable. He checked me in like nothing was wrong. So I call downstairs 2x with no answer. So I grab my LQ member and reservation info, head back down, exit the elevator to catch eye contact with Jerry just to have him turn around and go inside the back office. Wth? Did he think I was going to magically go away? So I waited for what seemed like an eternity (prob only about 3 min....I was getting angry at this point.) before I rang the bell. When he showed up, did he acknowledge the mistake? Nope. So I explain and he immediately tells me that all the suites are booked. "Then why didn't you tell me when I was checking in?? Is it your procedure to overbook even your suites and then NOT tell the person checking into said suite that it's been overbooked??". He starts fiddling with the computer, turns the monitor so I can see and says "See, I have no suite available...". What?? How is that an answer to my question?? By now I'm starting to realize that I was speaking to either a complete moron or somebody with zero customer service training and no common courtesy. Mind you that not one single apology of any kind was given up to this point. I tell him I want to speak to the manager and of course he's only around in the mornings. I told him the king room was too small so he switched me to a two queen room which was an average sized LQ 2 queen room. Their standard king is really small for an LQ. As I'm taking the keys I told him to please have the manager get a hold of me when he got in. I went upstairs, looked up the owners email on the site and politely explained my disappointment with Jerry's handling of my situation. The next morning I was greeted by a much nicer guy at the desk and when I asked for the manager after I gave a quick explanation, this front desk guy told me that HE himself as well as the owner Mr Patel, was sorry for what happened. Finally....an apology! Now the property itself is in good condition for an old place. Looked recently renovated. Rooms are nicely decorated with blues instead of usual brown colors. As mentioned the standard kings are small (small for an LQ...it used to be a holiday inn express.) but the 2 queens are nice. I have no idea about their suites though. It's located by the 5 on one side and a mcdonalds drive thru speaker on the other, so light sleepers take your pick. The small king was on the fwy side and the queens on the speaker side but that may not be their only layout. Maybe other reviews will provide more info. The noise with the windows closed was not noticeable for us. This rectangular hotel is located on a small uneven hill surrounded by other commercial buildings. The entrance is located on the east side of the building near the southern end. The east side is a level higher than the west. The parking is part open and part under the hotel on the east side and entirely under the hotel on the west. It's on the NE corner of Garnet Ave (East/west) and Mission Bay Dr (N/S), but not directly at the corner. There's a 76 at the corner with the LQ diagonally behind it. Just north of the 76 is the mcdonalds and then a muffler shop. To the east of the 76 is a vacant retail shop and then a south bound 5 fwy on ramp. In between the vacant building and 5 on ramp, there's a very small uphill drive way for the hotel. This entrance is not marked with any signage, so as soon as you pass the freeway entrance, immediately slow for a right turn. But most of you guys will either be comin up or down Mission Bay from the 5 fwy. And since Garnet Ave has a concrete median, you can't turn left going eastbound. So you have to enter from Damon Ave which sorta "Y" splits off of Mission Bay Dr right in front of McDonalds. You can make a left onto Damon coming southbound on Mission (5 south). So after the muffler shop, there's a used car lot and then the entrance on the right. Go all the way up the driveway until you come up to the hotel on your left. You will see the underground parking but don't park yet. Continue until you go around the hotel to the entrance on the east side! Success! This driveway is not very well lit so don't freak out if coming after dark. Very close to Sea World and Pacific Beach/Crystal pier as well as being only about 10-15 min away from a lot of SD sites. This is the best part of this LQ if you have a car. 10 min to downtown, to Balboa Park, to la Jolla and 15 min to Midway. Too bad about Jerry and over booking.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for one week. We got a very large room with a large bathroom. Both were very clean which is always needed. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was ideal for our sort of holiday. One machine was broken in the fitness suite. Didn't use pool area but looked fine.

"hard to find"

After checking quickly in the hotel and all of its normal stuff like nice room and helpfulness of staff the hotel is very nice, The bad part of it all is the getting to and from the hotel. The directions were not correct, the street signs were not either. It was not very good or easy to find, extremely hard to find.

The hotel is in a very good condition, recently painted, the carpet is clean, the beds are surprisingly confortable, tvs are in perfect condition, hot water the whole time, rooms does not have much space but its enough for an economic hotel, doble bed rooms even have a desk with a confortable chair, the breakfast is the standard for this type of hotel i would stay here again without hesitation. It is very well located just beside san diego freeway.
