"Bad stay at Amarillo"

This was probalby the worst stay that I have experienced at this location. First of all the there was a mix up the the reservations and I had two reservations waiting for me at check in. Then the room I was given the A/C was not operating properly and the maintenence person did a visual inspection and claimed it was working but it definetly was not. I later returned to the room and an outside A/C repairman had disabled the system so I was moved to a smoking room because that was all that was available at that time. The rest of my stay was in that room since I did not feel like moving my belongings a second time.
I will say that the manager in charge tried her best to make my stay as pleasant as possible even though she did not have much to work with.
What can I say!
This was another stop over on our trek through Route 66, but it was anything, but a peaceful haven.
Don't get me wrong the room was clean and well presented, the bathrooms spotless and serviceable. That, however, is where the comfort ended. We had a room that over looked the pool, which from the time of our arrival was occupied by rowdy American families (not even youngsters). They seemed to have moved in to the side of the hotel we were staying at and being on the 3rd floor just at the top of the staircase was not an ideal placement.
There were constant to-ing and fro-ing the only way they seemed to be able to communicate was to scream at the top of their voices to each other. This went on until 1.30am, when another American guy asked for some quiet. The hotel reception is around the other side of the building, but I fail to see how this noise could not be heard from there in the dead of night - are the staff of this hotel not responsible for ALL their guests peace and behaviour.
We left as soon as the light dawned having had no sleep whatsoever.
Certainly not worth the money to risk staying here, unless the management start enforcing some basic rules. The walls a paper thin and voices carry even when the place is bustling.
It's a shame, because having stayed at a previous La Quinta I was looking forward to the same level of hospitality here. Instead I was frightened and upset. Very poor management to allow such appalling noise after a suitable time of midnight.
We made reservations online. We had stayed in other La Quinta hotels - but none like this. We were on our way to New Mexico for a joint funeral for two of our family members. We called ahead to let the La Quinta know we would be in late (after 1 a.m.) and they checked us in the computer so our room wouldn't be given to anyone. When we arrived we went to our room, exhausted. The hotel is really, really run down. It looks worse than any motel or hotel I have ever been in. It's a terrible looking property. I remember feeling unsafe and uncomfortable, but ready to just get some sleep. I walked into our room - the bedding from both beds was all in a wad on one of the beds. The room had not been cleaned. I called the front desk to see if it was a mistake in room number. She said it was the right room and said, "It hasn't been cleaned." No apology. I kindly asked if we could have another room. She said, "No we're all booked." Again, with no apology. I kindly told her we would have to find another hotel then. She said, "That's fine." Then she offered to not charge us for the night (how nice, since we weren't staying there ?!?!). We went back down to the front desk and picked up the receipt. She never apologized. I was shocked - no apology at all. Nothing. I was exhausted and ready to cry. It had been a rough week for us as you could imagine. I told her that this was the worst possible scenario for us - I told her we were on our way to a funeral and that we were exhausted and now we had nowhere to stay and it was the middle of the night. It was after 2 a.m. now. She said "Sorry" after our backs were turned and we were half-way through the door. I just cried. We were never short with her, or angry. Just exhausted and in need of a place to stay. We drove around and finally found a room at the Comfort Suites at 3 a.m. They were amazing! They heard our story and said that several other people from La Quinta had come to their hotel with the same story. They gave us a deep discount and put us up in a nice suite. I HIGHLY recommend staying there. Don't ever stay at this La Quinta. Hopefully, by the time myself and all the other people who were kicked to the curb that night submit our complaints, that hotel won't be there anymore as it is a building that needs to be torn down anyhow. I have never filled out a complaint for anything. But this was the most unacceptable situation I have ever been in with any hotel. Hopefully the corporate office will do something about this. We'll see...
The best part of this motel was the new beds. We didn't know it was outside entrance and we wouldn't have stayed there had we known. I didn't feel safe because it was too far to walk to the lobby. Breakfast was fair. Cold ice water is needed along with the juice, but I do commend the clerk for getting me a bottle of cold water
We have stayed in a lot of La Quinta hotels (gold level La Quinta card members) and I have to say that this is the worst we have been in. The room smelled of cigarette smoke, and when we turned on the air conditioning it got worse. The toilet required two or three flushes. The cleaning staff, however, was wonderful, as was the office people.
The rate we paid was high end compared to the other motels on I-40, but the facilities didn't justify it. No refrigerator or microwave. There were only two unused electric outlets in the bedroom and one in bathroom, providing insufficient room to charge phones and computers.
There was broken concrete on the walkways and potholes in the parking lot. And we were greeted by a police car in front of the motel, which should have warned us that this was a low budget place masquerading as a La Quinta.
