"Past Pleasures Lost"

Before retirement the La Quinta chain was my premier choice when traveling and based on that I thought booking our trip to Clearwater could only be enhanced based on those past experiences by booking La Quinta again. I want to say the front desk staff were tried and were polite and tried but they did not have a record of our special request made with the reservation and so we were not able to have the room location we requested. This hotel is long overdue for a complete refit. The walls inside and out are dingy and dirty, the beds were unbelievably out of date, (I now know what a Florida sink hole looks like!). Security is virtually non-existent, I had to push a man out the front door as he tried to enter while I was going out. The breakfast was limited as much was unavailable as out of stock. The fridge only worked if you kept re-setting the circuit breaker every time it came on which of course meant we lost all our snacks. Yes it is dog friendly and the people on the desk were trying to help, but come on La Quinta.
Eaten up by bed bugs the first two nights, moved to a different room with filthy mold in bathroom. After several complaints gave up on having the mold removed for the bathroom! Management although courteous fall to respond to our considerations.
We thought the staff were really helpful and courteous throughout the entire stay. They are pet friendly and showed it by their readiness to accommodate our dog by having us in a room on the ground floor. We would definitely stay there again.
"Basic room with friendly, helpful staff. Could be cleaner."

I travel on a budget most of the time so I'm accustomed to staying in budget hotels. I don't expect much from La Quinta Inns. I only booked this because it was the cheapest and nearest option to my grandmother's house in Pinellas Park and I had no intention of driving to and from the beaches. Most hotels have good and bad points so here they are.
The Good: Staff so friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking. Location convenient to interstate, restaurants and shopping. Everything in the room worked properly. Quiet, got a good night's sleep. Checked the pool, it is heated but we did not go in as the weather was cold and rainy. Breakfast is provided from 6-9am. Can walk a few feet to Bob Evans restaurant, they have good breakfast. Check in and out was easy, no surprise charges, billing correctly done.
The Bad: Our room and the dining area could use a good scrubbing. The walls and bathrooms were not grossly dirty, (no bugs) just old grunge requiring some elbow grease on doors, around toilets, walls. (While this did not bother me, my mother was disgusted by it and would not shower there.) The breakfast consists of watery juices and off-brand cereals, bagels, coffee, white bread, milk, condiments. Did have Yoplait yogurt and brand-name oatmeal and muffins. It is what I expected.
Good service. Left before breakfast was available. Try to stay at LaQuinta whenever I travel. Only encountered one that had no elevator and I cancelled the reservagion. Ended up in a not so nice place. Much prefer La Quinta hotels and suites.
