"Excellent hotel in a safe area"
5 of 5 stars Reviewed Aug 18, 2014

Booked this hotel online since the price was cheaper this way than booking directly with them by phoning. The hotel was very nice and everything was very clean. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The ac worked well and was not too noisy. The bathroom had a quiet fan. Fast internet in the room. We enjoyed the pool which was very clean and good size for a hotel. Check in was fast and the clerk was very nice. Cofee maker, refrigerator and microwave in the room. Breakfast was ok, not the best we have seen for continental but adequate. Very pleased with this hotel, would return if passing through the area.

"Satsuma"

A La Quinta traveler |
I stay at LaQuinta because I typically travel with my little dog, and I so appreciate that LQ is pet friendly. Some LQ locations can be less than desirable when it comes to accommodations and cleanliness. The Satsuma location was really comfortable, clean and safe. We will definitely stay here again.

"Still Not Where it Needs to Be"
3 of 5 stars Reviewed Jul 29, 2014
TravelSteveR | Texas City, TX
We re-visited the LaQuinta Inn and Suites-Satsuma/Saraland one year after our previous visit. I contacted one of the managers a few weeks ahead of time to give her a heads-up that we would be staying there again, and she assured me that this visit would be, in her words, "perfect". To begin, the place still needs to work on its landscaping--the mud-hole entrance to the parking lot is still there. We stayed in a 2-room King Suite (#200) on this trip, and when we walked through the side entrance we were hit in the face with a horrible odor. It seriously smelled as if something had died. We went up to the room, and the furniture was a bit worn, but all-in-all it was fine; however, the same Internet issues that plagued us the year before continued to be an issue. Both my roommate and I had issues with the signal, I had them on both my Kindle Fire HD and Acer Netbook, and he on his IPAD Mini. He could not even connect--he went out into the hall, and he was able to get a signal there. In the room, my Internet signal stayed at either LOW or VERY LOW for the three nights we were there. I had work to do on the trip, so I went down to the Business Center and found that the printer was out of ink, and I could not use the word processor without its freezing up. I kept getting an ENTER KEY request, an indication that the software was a trial version which had never been purchased. I gave up and went back up to the room to find that horrible odor from downstairs had made its way up to the second floor. The hallway was hot, which made the smell even worse. When I went into the room, I could smell that odor coming into the room from under the door. It got worse as the night progressed. The following morning, I went down to the Business Center again and figured out a way to circumvent the problem with the word processor and was able to get my work done. My roommate joined me, and we had breakfast. Breakfast was fine with the typical LaQuinta spread: egg discs, sausage (crumbled to make tacos), cheese, grits and oatmeal packets, yogurt, juice, milk, coffee, flour tortillas, bagels, bread, and English muffins. There was the standard waffle maker as well. I saw the front desk clerk and told her about the smell and Internet issues. She informed me that they had has issues with the Internet earlier in the week, and the technician had replaced a part. She did not know about the smell and said she would have someone look into it (which she did--the smell was gone by the next day--the Internet problems continued, however). We went to the hot tub and found it inoperative. We used the pool phone to call the front desk about the hot tub and were told "Yeah, we're working on that." That night, we noticed that the side entrance, which is supposed to be only key accessible, was not, and it was grand central through that door--people were in the pool at 1:00 A.M. even though the pool was supposed to close at 10:00 P.M. There was a lot of running around on the third floor over our room during our stay--even my roommate, who never complains about anything, went out to see what was causing all the noise. One note to disabled guests: even though there is a handicapped-accessible ramp on the side of the hotel near the pool, there is no handicapped parking next to it. When cars park there, they make the handicapped-accessible ramp inaccessible, and therefore, useless. When I checked out, I gave the manager-on-duty a list of the issues and told her that at least this time we didn't have the bug issues we had the last time. I told her our next trip to the area would be in December, and she said that, "Hopefully, third time's the charm."

"Great Hotel"

Got to the hotel at about 9 pm but was able to check in with out any trouble...actually pretty quick...as I had a reservation. The hotel was very clean, quiet, updated, great rooms...and a nice staff. Has a couple of places to eat within a short walking distance from hotel. Would stay here again if in the area.
