"Nice & Neat"

The Hotel front desk staff was extremely friendly & courteous. The Housekeeping personel were very friendly and accomodating to our needs. Overall, this was a very neat and tidy place. The pool was small but clean. The morning breakfast was better than average. We will stay here again.
Excellent hotel run by excellent staff. Great value. This is one of my regular stop-overs in my business travels. Hotel is always neat and clean, staff friendly and helpful, room is comfortable and clean with up-to-date amenities.
I booked an accessible room with two beds online for my mom and me at the La Quinta in Ennis, TX. I have had problems in the past with hotels not honoring requests for accessible rooms booked online so I also called the hotel directly to let them know that I was traveling with a person in a wheelchair and that we would be checking in late. I was told that an accessible room was guaranteed and that late check-in would not be a problem. My mom is completely dependent on a wheelchair for mobility (she cannot walk a single step) so an accessible room is a necessity.
We arrived around 7:30 PM and were given room 121, which the desk clerk confirmed was an accessible room. As soon as we opened the door, we realized that although La Quinta called the room ?accessible? it was not ADA compliant.
The path between the entrance door and the bedroom was barely wide enough for my mom?s standard width wheelchair. There was not enough space for my mom?s wheelchair to fit around the sides or foot of the bed. There was no way to get her into the bed without carrying her, which I am not strong enough to do.
The next problem with the room was the bathroom. The bathroom appeared large enough for a wheelchair and had appropriate bars for the tub and toilet. However, due to the swing of the bathroom door and the tight turn radius, my mom could not get her wheelchair into the bathroom. The only way to get her into the bathroom would be to carry her.
The room might be fine for someone who can walk but has balance problems and requires grab bars for the tub and toilet. However, there is absolutely no way that the room was acceptable for a person dependent on a wheelchair.
We returned to the counter and informed the clerk that a mistake had been made because the room we were assigned was not accessible. She told us that we were given the correct room and it was listed as accessible. We asked her to look at the room and explain how a wheelchair user was supposed to access the bed and bathroom. She also could not figure out how to get my mom into the bed or bathroom without carrying her and offered to move us to a suite.
We looked at a suite, which was a larger room but only had one bed. There was enough space for my mom?s wheelchair to access the bed, but the bathroom door was not wide enough and there were no grab bars in the bathroom. The clerk said that my mom could use the bathroom in the lobby, but my mom wanted to take a shower and the lobby bathroom only had toilets.
Since the hotel was unable to provide a room that was acceptable, we asked to check out and have our money refunded. The clerk initially said that she wasn?t supposed to do that because we had missed the 6 PM deadline for cancellation without penalty. When reminded that we booked an accessible room that the hotel did not provide, she said that she needed management approval. She tried to call the manager but was unable to reach him/her. At that point she agreed to refund our money. Hopefully she did not get into trouble with management over her decision.
After calling 8 other hotels in an attempt to find one with an accessible room available, we were finally able to locate one not too far away but it only had one bed. Since we were tired from a full day of driving and did not want to travel much further, we switched to the other hotel and made due since it was only one night.
My mom and I have stayed at La Quinta hotels previously and not encountered a problem with the accessibility of the room so were not expecting a problem this time. However, if this is the type of room that some La Quinta hotels consider to be ?accessible? then the whole chain is now suspect, in my opinion. It is very doubtful that I would ever book another room at a La Quinta even if the hotel guarantees that the room is wheelchair accessible.
This was our first trip to the La Quinta Inn in Ennis. It was very clean, quiet, comfortable, and somewhat "hidden" on the highway. Pool area was very nice and had lots of places just to sit and relax as well as swim. Room was very nice and clean Bed was very comfortable.
i came for business and it turned into pleasure. the staff was friendly and helpful, eager to please. the breakfast area was clean and well stocked. when we needed directions to the business meeting and for local places to eat, the staff was very nice and even wrote down the directions so we could find the spots easily
