"Good Friendly Service - Close to Airport"
Reviewed Jun 1, 2013

We stayed overnight once again, passed Casino on our way to the hotel. The bed was very comfortable. Refrigerator worked well. Shuttle service was available for our early departure. There was no change with the oversize furniture in the room from our last visit; the closet space is very small. Over nights are comfortable here.
The hotel is located just off of the Van Wyck Expressway. I have used the hotel on several occasions for business trips in the Brooklyn/Queens area. The rooms are small, but fully equipped. The biggest complaint is that the parking lot is small and at times you need to park on city streets. However, the area does appear to be safe and I have had no problems with late night arrivals or early morning departures.
There is no restaurant, but the front desk has a variety of menus of restaurants in the area that will deliver to the hotel, so eating has never been a problem
We just stayed overnight, in transit in JFK.
Old fashioned typical airport hotel, no restaurants nearby, just vending machines in the lobby.
Airport shuttle only once each hour, which is not very comfortable.
Staff quite friendly, but nothing special.
At least we had a good sleep, but dont think woul
Do not believe any positive reports about this hotel as I just stayed there last week and so far management has been unresponsive. This hotel is unsafe. There are permanent guests who run the halls all night and slam doors. The door was was narrower than the frame which made me feel unsafe. The elevator did not function well and was dirty. Shower handle fell off in my hand. Walls were paper thin so as to hear the guest next door. The area was unsafe. LQ is ruining their brand name as this on the arrivals board at the JFK international airport arrivals area. This does not resemble any LQ's I have stayed at the past year.
I have to admit that I was looking forward to writing this review from the moment I booked a room for 3 nights in this La Quinta Inn & Suites JFK Airport. Like many other reviews I have read here, I found this hotel through a deal in Hotwire.
I planned this trip to New-York over a month in advance; I needed to visit few friends I have not seen in a while, and meet one of my dear friend?s new born, so it was a must! 2 weeks before my trip, I found a great deal on hotwire around JFK airport, and since I didn?t want stay in the city, it looked perfect for me, but it was a bet, as we all know how booking on hotwire works. I took my chance and booked anyway, and the moment I found out about the name of the hotel, La Quinta Inn & Suites JFK Airport, something in me just went ?OUPS!?. I came immediately in here to read what people were saying about it; after going through few of them, I really felt bad about having taken that deal from hotwire, it seemed like it was a mistake, as people were talking about the unsafe area where the hotel is located, the lack of enough parking space, the small size of the room, etc?Since I did not have a choice, it was obviously a done deal, I called the hotel to express my concerns about reviews I was reading. I told them I wanted a decent room and inquired about the parking space and how safe the area was. The hotel did confirm that parking space in the hotel was limited, but there were options to park on the street at the back of the hotel without any restriction, or in front of the hotel with the condition to remove the car by 7am to prevent it from getting towed. The hotel assured me that they will make sure I have a king size bed in a non-smoking room. I was half satisfied, but I needed to see it for myself.
The day of my trip came and I flew to NY, rented a car from JFK Airport and drove straight to the hotel. I must say that the hotel is conveniently located near the airport, 5-10 min top were enough to get there. When I arrived, I immediately notice the limited parking space that everyone talks about, but there was still free spots, so I parked my car and went to check-in. The lady at the front desk was very welcoming and charming. She expedited my check-in and gave me the same information that I was told on the phone a month earlier about parking at the back and in front of the hotel.
I went up to my room and that?s where I realized that people reviewing this hotel were a little bit too hard about the size of the rooms. Mine was a standard room with a king size bed, I found it decent and convenient for everything that I wanted and needed to do; the bathroom was clean and spacious enough for me; the bed was comfortable and there were all basic amenities in the room. Bottom line is I was satisfied with my room and did not find anything wrong with it.
I went out the same night and came back late and of course, there was not any parking space left; I parked on the street at the back of the hotel, the street looked a bit dark, but I didn?t want to park in front of the hotel and to wake up before 7 just to move the car. I informed the front desk and they assured me that it was a safe area and the security guard does his round there during the night. They reassured me and nothing happened to my car the next day.
Internet is free, so for me it was very convenient as it allowed to stay in touch and updated.
The breakfast is also included, but it?s really a very basic one with limited choices; after the first morning of having breakfast, I didn?t really want to go back to it anymore, I just grabbed yogurts and fruits, which to me were the only things worth it.
Overall I must say that I wouldn?t have any problem staying there again; it?s not a 5 stars hotel, and some of the points raised by other reviewers are valid, but if you want a night or 2 near JFK airport in a decent room with access to the highway and restaurants (fast food), this could be a good deal.
