"In Dire Need and Renovation and an Abundance and Safety Issues"

My family stayed there on Friday 8/8/14 for one night as we were in town for a BBQ competition. Check In was easy and the staff was friendly. The lobby was also fairly nice.
That is about where the good ends.
Instead of a pretty lobby, they really need to upgrade their hotel. Our entrance (Entrance #2) included a sidewalk missing about 2/3 of its bricks. As anyone can imagine, this is a tripping hazard. Maybe hire someone to re-brick the walkway or at least post a sign because in the dark i would be very easy so someone to get hurt.
Once inside our room, the rooms were old and in need of some new paint, curtains, carpet, etc. I did not find it particularly dirty, but it was definitely run down. While looking for an outlet to plug in our cell phones, I made a disturbing discovery. The wiring near the bed was daisy chained extension cords (one extension cord plugged into another) and they were not even 3-pronged grounded cords but the cheapest store brand cords you can get. This is considered a fire hazard (actually considering how old those cords looked it was probably several fire hazards). Also, one outlet was converted fro ma 2-plug face to a 6-plug face with one of those plug in outlets. Again, they went for the cheapest and least safe option instead of paying a few more dollars for at the very least an grounded and fused surge protector. Considering both a microwave and refrigerator were plugged into that outlet along with a lamp, an overload was just begging to happen.
For those safety reasons, I can not give this property a good score.
This place needs a face lift. We stayed here for one night on our way to PA. The room itself was ok, however it had a very musty smell. The walls were paper thin hearing everything from blowing noses to bathroom breaks from other guest rooms. The AC was extremely noisy and clicked on and off every 3 minutes or so. I know this is not the hotel's fault, but very noisy people slamming doors late at night making it difficult to sleep. Needless to say between slamming of the doors, AC noise, and listening to my neighbor blow his nose, I am not well rested at all. I most likely will not stay here again and would be willing to pay a little extra for a better night stay.
Very disappointing. Bathtub showed hair and the drawers in the hotel apparently so not get cleaned either. No internet most of the time. I do not recommend this hotel if you intend to work in your room.
There were no other rooms available anywhere in the area, so we were very happy to get a place to stay. The location was very convenient, just off of I-95. The room was your basic room, not very large. The bathroom was very small with a grimy shower curtain. I can't blame La Quinta for the people who stayed there, but there were loud people in the hallway with doors slamming all night. The paver walk to the back stairwell that we took to our room was crumbling and was definitely a safety hazard. The continental breakfast was ok, but definitely not as good as other moderately priced hotels that we frequent, so we ate out. I would not recommend staying more than one night. The room was over $100 for the night, definitely not worth it, but again there were no other available rooms in the area.
I can't speak to the quality of the rooms at this hotel because we never stepped foot in one. We had reservations several weeks in advance and arrived at the hotel with the intention of staying but never made it to our room. As a La Quinta Returns Elite Member, it is customary (as a part of our benefits) to receive an upgraded room based on availability at the time of arrival. While we are not the type of traveler who demands this, it is something we expect. We almost always check for available upgrades (empty rooms) before getting there and this was no exception. There were at least two 'King Suites' that slept 4 people (size of our family) open for the duration of our stay and so we naturally anticipated being given one of these. The rather curt and unfriendly lady who handled our check-in let us know that they were 'sold out' and had no upgrades. Ok, that's fine, maybe they were booked and it was an online error. Accepted the keys, signed the forms and went back to the car to unload. Just to verify though, we checked the app again and saw the hotel still had at least 4 room types open including those 'King Suites'. Called our Elite Private Line and asked if they saw the same thing we did and they confirmed those were available along with another 'Two Room Suite' that wasn't even listed on the app. Now I am upset. Not because we didn't receive the upgrade but because we were blatantly lied to. Cancelled our reservation and was lucky enough that La Quinta itself refunded the cost without penalty. Just be wary if you are a Gold or Elite member staying here with hopes of an upgrade.
