Chose this hotel because it was close to "Old Town" and downtown San Diego. Met our expectations though the breakfast wasn't that good and the WiFi slow. Just one remark- they should make it more clear that you have to book the shuttle two hours in advance to the airport. do not know how it works from the airport

We spent a weekend at La Quinta Inn in Olde Town and had a great time. The hotel is within walking distance to great restaurants, tourist sites, city transportation and the I-5 freeway. The hotel staff was outstanding during our stay, and made sure we had everything we needed. This hotel is also dog-friendly, which is hard to find (we brought ours). The only downsides to the hotel is that it is located next to the freeway. Be sure to check which side your room is - ours was on the other side and we didn't have any traffic issues. The other is that our room was on the smallish side, but since we didn't come to San Diego to sit in a hotel room, this wasn't a huge issue. Overall, an outstanding hotel - 5 stars for the price and service

We get great service and REALLY benefit from the location. This is our third Memorial Day weekend at this property -- close to everything, easy access and great people. I love to walk up to Old Town (couple of minutes) for coffee or just to sit and watch people, and we are just a few blocks from MCRD, where we attend an event. The property is clean and well maintained, and the rooms are upgraded, stylish and comfortable. It stays quiet at night. Small issues are dealt with (a leaky bathtub drain, little things like that) and the staff are cheerful. We book about six months ahead for the annual fun -- we'll be back in 2014.

We were staying one night in San Diego before continuing on to Boston. One of the reasons we chose the La Quinta Old Town/Airport is because they had airport shuttle service. Since we were staying just one night, we didn't want to rent a car. We called the La Quinta the day before our trip to make sure they would have a shuttle when we got in that night. We were assured they would, and just to call the hotel when we arrived in San Diego. When we called they told us the shuttle had stopped at 8:00PM,(We called at 8:30), and that we would have to call a taxi. Well, this was an expense we had not expected, but what could we do? When we got to to the front desk we told the person there we had called the day before and had been assured we would have a shuttle. We were told they didn't know who would have told us that. What? Did they think we were lying? Shame on them! Why would a hotel that includes airport in their name stop their shuttle at 8 PM? Do they think everyone comes in by then? Not if you're coming from Hawaii you don't! The hotel is being renovated, so the #'s to the room were taped on the door. Except in our area they were taped on the floor by the corner of the door. It took us five minutes to find our room because silly us,we looked on the door, not the floor. The next morning we had the free breakfast. We had the DIY waffles. After we took a couple bites, my husband and I looked at each other and said, "Does yours taste sour?" It seems like the batter was spoiled. We tried a pastry, but they were stale. To be fair, they have renovated the rooms and they're quite pretty. They hadn't renovated the tub yet. However, no shuttle after 8PM , spoiled food would keep me from ever staying there again!!!!

This hotel needs a lot of refurbishing to get up to proper standards of a mid-price hotel chain. Much of the place is worn and the elevator and the garage are dark and dirty. The room was small and the carpet needed to be changed. The breakfast was minimal and the quality was poor since everything seemed to have been defrosted just before serving. The location near Old Town is convenient, but there are other better choices in the mid-price range, and I would not go back to this hotel again.
