"Hotel for dogs!"

First of all, I want to say that the overall cleanliness and comfort inside our room was great. The beds are comfortable. The hotel is fairly new and well kept. The reason I'm giving the poor rating is this: We checked in after dark and were given a room on the first floor. This was a perfect location for us, I thought, because my son had a huge goalie bag full of hockey equipment. Upon finding our room, we were greeted with barks of disapproval from the room across the hall from ours. Since it was late and we were all tired, we decided that the dog might settle down after we exited the hallway. The dog did bark a bit later but we had the AC running on high so it helped drown out the noise.
The next morning I dropped my son off at the Stars hockey rink (which is literally 5 minutes away and the reason we chose this hotel). Upon returning back to the room I was greeted with barking from across the hall....AND in the room next door. The dogs continued to bark (at each other thru the closed doors) and bark and bark. After about an hour of barking, I went to the front desk to complain and asked to be moved. I asked where we could be moved that had no dogs. The desk attendant apologized about the barking and said she could move me to the third floor because no dogs are put on that floor. I moved all our unpacked luggage in several trips up to the third floor, which was a huge hassle but if we could get a quiet room then I was okay with it. I settled in the new, quiet room to get some work done.
Everything was great until the evening when we returned from dinner when....you guessed it...BARKING in the room next to us...on the third floor...where no dogs were supposed to reside. I went back to the front desk and complained to another desk attendant. He wrote down the room number and said he would call. He told me that the best he could do was move me AGAIN and that he didn't know why the previous desk attendant had told me no dogs on third floor. "All our rooms are dog friendly," he said. (So if that's the case then management should put a sign at the front desk alerting potential guests that they may want to rethink their choice in hotels unless they want to be next door to barking dogs.) We decided to not move rooms again and the dog did settle down after the front desk called the owner.
When I checked out, another desk attendant asked how my stay was. I told her what all had happened. She apologized and said dogs weren't supposed to be on the third floor and the attendants were new and probably didn't know. Unfortunately, I will probably not stay at a LaQuinta again. We are normally a Hilton Hotel family. I decided to stay at LaQuinta because of the close location to my sons hockey camp. That aspect was very convenient. The hotel was clean and the breakfast was adequate. However, the number of dogs vs people in the hotel was unwelcoming...and we are even dog people ourselves. But I don't pay good money to stay in a hotel and listen to dogs bark. Minus the dogs all over the whole hotel, this hotel would have gotten a much better rating. Management needs to take a look at their pet policy and make sure all staff are trained properly as to what floors to book people with dogs on. If you are a traveler with a dog, this hotel is for you!
"Worst Hotel Experience Ever! No Management at All."

From the moment we arrived, until the time we departed 4 days later, this hotel was the worst we have ever stayed at. I will describe the experience in chronological order.
The TV. First, when we got to our room, the TV did not work. We called the front desk. They said they would send someone up. We waited and waited. We called again. We waited and waited. Since we were already late to our dinner with our family, we decided we would have to leave and forgo television that night. When we returned to our room later that night, the TV was on. We thought that it was odd that someone came into our room when we were gone and left the TV on, but we thought that at least the TV was working and we watched a little TV before we turned it off and went to sleep. When we woke up the next morning and tried to turn it on, it would not come on. It was then that we realized the worker had left it on because if it is shut off it would not turn on, without the maintenance worker doing something to it.
The Room. The second thing we noticed when we walked into the room was that the room was dirty. There was black mold surrounding the bath tub. Being a heavy coffee drinker, I look forward to making a couple of cups in the morning. Although the maid left 3 decaf coffee packets, there was no regular coffee. When I asked for some regular coffee packets at the front desk, I was told that they were out of regular coffee. After staying there a couple of days, we realized why the room was so filthy. There was no maid service! Not once, in four days, did we ever have any maid service. When I went down to the desk on the first two nights when we did not receive maid service, to ask what happened and to get fresh towels, etc., the front desk guy had no explanation for the maid service. When I asked for wash clothes and towels, he told me they had none because "the dryer is broke." When I asked to see a manager, he said that he had just "stepped out, but would be back in a few minutes." After I asked the front desk clerk to have him call us or come up to our room (if he could find some towels), he assured me he would in "15-20 minutes." The manager never returned or contacted us (since we did this on two separate nights, before we gave up, I assume that is what they are told to say). Never once in 4 nights did we get maid service or fresh towels. We were always gone by 9 a.m.and did not return until 7 p.m., so it was not a situation where the maid could not get into the room to make it up.
Breakfast. The next morning we went down for breakfast. Breakfast is advertised as having fresh fruit and yogurt. We are health conscious and our breakfasts consist of fruit, yogurt and coffee. We do not ask for or want a big, extravagant breakfast. For 4 mornings they "were out of" fruit and yogurt. Every morning we would ask and every morning we were told the same thing. Is it too much to ask someone to run up to the store and buy a 12 pack of yogurt and a bunch of bananas or some grapes? We could understand, perhaps, this occurring on one occasion when they were particularly busy and had no extra help to run up to the store. Having this occur 4 mornings in a row, however, demonstrates extremely poor management.
Follow Up. I received the customary email from La Quinta asking us to rate their service. I spent significant time addressing the issues, as I did in this review. I received an email back identifying the general manager and asking me to call or email him because he wanted to hear about the problems. As is typical for this hotel, I could not get through on the phone. The number given was the front desk. When I called, it rang for about a minute and then I got a busy signal. I could never get through. When I could not get through via telephone, I sent an email to the general manager with my telephone number and email address. Not surprisingly, given our experience, he has never called nor returned my email. There were other minor problems, such as garbage all over the stairwells and common areas, the eating area being dirty and all the tables being sticky and dirty, but those complaints are minor in comparison to the above.
My suggestion, stay as far away from this place as possible.
Nice new motel. Good service. Clean. Very nice rooms. Friendly. Location could be more accessible. But quiet. Very nice new appointments. Enjoyed the stay. This was a N Dallas business conference. We had good attendance and service. Thank you all very much.
We stayed at this hotel for 8 days while visiting our son. At first the property looks very nice. The room was comfortable. After 3 nights we realized the floor wasn't being cleaned in the bathroom, carpet not vacuumed, table not washed off, or the bed sheets made. Once pulling back the smoothed over blanket the bottom sheet was as we left it after waking. We complained to the manager who told us they had new cleaning staff that were just learning. We told him they had a lot of learning to do. He told us the room would get a new arrival cleaning and when we came back that night it was cleaned...but that was the last time. We went through the same dirty room again until we complained again. There's only one elevator which is very slow. Breakfast is pretty good.
