"Nice Experience"

This was my second time here and both times I had very nice stayed. The hotel's not very big but it's very cozy and it has the lodge cabin kind of feel and rooms are good size too. I enjoyed their breakfast and the staffs are friendly and helpful so I definitely will come back again.
I went on a ten day trip out west from Denver to Yellowstone. I stayed in many hotels but the one that stood out the most was La Quinta Inn in Steamboat Springs. The people are very kind and helped out with some accommodations that we needed. There facility was very clean. They had a sparkling blue pool. I recommend this hotel because of all their hospitality.
But we just didn't get that "home away from home" feeling that we normally get when staying at a LQ. We stay at a lot of LQ's across the country and for 2 years have maintained Elite member status. This LQ lacked a lot.
For starters we have never had a problem getting a late check out. Most LQ's we stay at have a check out of noon. This one is 11 so my husband ask the woman at check in if we could get a late check out of noon. She was not happy about it at all and complained that she needed to know a head of time as she makes money by renting motel rooms. HUH? What does that have to do with a hour later check out? It's on a Wednesday and the summer season has not kicked into high gear yet. Besides as my husband pointed out, we are Elite members and have never had a problem with getting a late check out in any LQ we have stayed in. We got the late check out but I felt so uncomfortable about her complaints that my granddaughter and I left the room shortly after 11 and sat in the lobby with our luggage until my husband finished his meeting.
While sitting there we became very uncomfortable when yelling began down the hallway. I'm pretty sure it was the owner yelling at someone. Not pleasant. Nor are all the signs they have posted EVERYWHERE with rules. Quiet time at 8:30 PM. Seriously? No TV in the lobby after that time either? Pool doesn't open till 10 AM. yet check out at 11 AM? Report to management if we don't like the way someone looks? You've got to be kidding me! There were several others listed that quite frankly I found offensive. Breakfast? Who runs out of coffee at 7 AM? Breakfast is poorly set up and was not plentiful in any way. What few mini muffins were there were stale and hard, as were the bagels.
We had two kings in our room. Based on all our past LQ stays (we always get upgraded to suites) I figured with 2 kings there would be a fair amount of space in the room. Not a chance. They cram as many beds in a room as they can get. The bathroom. A big NO! So small that you can't open the bathroom door all the way because it hits the toilet. The shower head needs replaced and it was very difficult to get the water temperature set. Any slight move and it was extreme hot or extreme cold. The bathroom didn't have a clean feel either. Both the toilet and the tub had old stains and rings. Like they have not been properly scrubbed. The tub faucet had dried ajax or some sort of that type of cleaner on it. The towels and washcloths were badly stained. ICK Made me feel like they may have never been washed. Everything about this LQ makes you feel as if corners are being cut to maximize profit and that a customers needs and basic cleanliness are not a priority.
A note about the beds. One of the reasons we stay at so many LQ's are the beds. Many may find the beds at this LQ comfortable but we didn't. They are not the same type mattress we are use to that other LQ's use. Nor were the pillows. I realize this is not a corporate owned LQ but we have stayed at many that are not. This one however was the farthest from Corporate we have ever stayed at.
LQ's will always be our "home away from home", just not this one.
Wonderful stay...location is across from city park and trails, room was clean, staff was friendly. Only complaint is that their website did not mention pet fee but when we checked in, there was a $10 fee, which is normal anyway. Glad we chose LaQuinta.
From check-in to check-out, John, his spouse and the entire staff meticulously made sure our stay was problem-free. Rooms were clean, bathrooms clean, the breakfast bar was clean and well-serviced, snow in the parking area was cleared each day, and they were friendly and hospitable. Nights were quiet and peaceful, while I had the ability to watch the entire NCAA tournament suite of basketball games on HD in my room. The best value in Steamboat
