They listen to their customers and will be making lots of modifications - larger lobby and breakfast area, adding a gym, making room/bathroom improvements. I will enjoy seeing it when I return next year.
The room looks good and is well furnished but the problem is that everything about this property seems to be done on the cheap. The walls are thin and transmit noise from all surrounding areas. Since my room was next to an external door it was particularly noisy.
The check in system seemed inefficient. Although I had a reservation no paperwork was ready, I had to wait while all details were entered into the system and the paperwork was then printed. Each check-in took five minutes and I was behind three others so that was annoying. There was just one person handling reception and it needed more.
Even though I was checking in more than an hour after check-in time my room was not ready and neither were any of the rooms for those in front of me. Clearly the housekeeping was also understaffed.
The main annoyance, howvere, came when I tried to access tha Internet. The security code for their free wireless access is changed every Sunday and had just been changed. However, the access code I was given at check-in did not work. I went back to reception to report this (another wait) and the receptionist said she was aware of the issue and had made a call to IT support. This was not mentioned at check in even to newcomers as they arrived. After another two houurs it was still not working so I went back to the front desk again. I asked the recptionist to check my access code but she just said she had given me the correct one at check in. I asked for the previous week's code in case the update had not been made but she refused that and said she was still waiting on IT.
Since I plan my trips an a day-to-day basis I rely on Internet access every night to plan the next day and book my hotel for the next night so I was not happy. In teh morning it was still not working so I went to the front desk again onlly to discover that the access code I had been given was incorrect.
My summary would be to only consider this place if you are willing to deal with issues.
It is easy to see that they are trying to make a nice hotel out of this place, but they have missed the mark by about fifty bucks a night. This place is not yet a good value.
Room cost $128, perhaps for Bishop this is not bad. The place was obviously worn down a while ago, such as is most of Bishop. There is no pool. The plumbing was unique (I know plumbing, this is not standard stuff they have used), the bathroom was impossibly small and weird. The room was nice enough and clean enough. No elevator.
The breakfast was sad. not merely sad (but very sad). The food was sparse, the fruit a bit old, and the coffee came in Styrofoam . . . So we went to Schat's Bakkery instead.
The room was a non smoking room, however, it smelled horrible. It had obviously been a smoking room at some time. There were three inch holes in the wall that had wires running to the next room. I am quite certain the wires were for the satellite TV. It just looked tacky, which showed me a lot. The breakfast was the best part of the stay. The bathroom was very small. Not the worse, but certainly not the best...
We have stayed at this hotel several times over the past three years. The last time was over a year ago and wrote a review. Nothing changed over those three years. We stopped in Bishop recently and walked bye the hotel on the way to dinner. The construction project in front of the hotel is still not complete (up grading/rubble in the marque). This is after three years that we know of. So, it tells me NOTHING HAS CHANGED inside the hotel since I reviewed the hotel over a year ago.
