"First LQ stay"

My husband and I are on an 8 week trip across the country with our dog. We chose as many LQ's as possible because of their liberal dog policy. They do not charge extra for a dog and truly welcome your pet. This was our first LQ stay. The hotel is not near the center of Pensacola. It is right on Davis Hwy. That said the room was clean and quiet. It had a fridge and a microwave. No safe. This is a perfectly good average hotel for an overnight stay. The bright side bfast was adequate.
My wife's Trek bike was stolen in their parking lot the night of 5-18 or early AM of 5-19. The bike was locked on our bike rack and the rack was locked to the truck. The truck was backed into the parking space by the elevator. This hotel has no camera system or security staff and room doors that open to the outdoors. If someone is going to steal from the vehicles what is going to stop them from trying to get into your room. There are transients sitting in the front of the hotel and the deputy sheriff stated that this is one of the problems with theft in the area. LaQuinta has refused to compensate us for the loss but last night we received 2 nights free at this location. I guess they want more of our stuff. We are refusing this poor attempt of compensation for our loss, I am a Gold member and LaQuinta is not going to receive our business again. This hotel is a security risk. When my wife gave the front desk clerk the information from the deputy sheriff she stated that she knew him from previous visits to the hotel.
Folks are wonderful here. SO sweet and helpful with everything. Checking into this hotel was a pleasure and would surely recommend it again. The area was nice and you had lots of stores and restaurants to pick from. The beach was about 15 minutes away and easy to get to using I-110. We loved it there and would gladly return soon i hope.
We loved our stay at La Quinta in Pensacola. The room was clean, cozy and quiet. We were located poolside and had no problems with parties or noise. The setting felt like a bungalow and was surrounded with a welcoming landscape of palm trees and bushes native to Florida and the south...it was especially welcoming for us since we don't live in this region and it gave us an appealing experience. We loved staying here, however we weren't fond of the breakfast offered. It lacked flair and variety and was actually boring...but we would stay again otherwise.
In the past several days we have learned that while all La Quinta Hotels appear to be pet friendly (which is a must for us), they are not created equal facility wise.
We spent the evening of May 29, 2013 at the La Quinta in Pensacola found it to be threadbare and dreary to say the very least. This hotel has seen better days and is not being well maintained. The accumulated crude in the bathroom exhaust duct suggests that the duct has never been cleaned in the long history of the hotel. The dresser had been chewed on by prior pet guests. Aside from accepting pets (which is why we stayed there), they seem to appeal to smokers who throw their cigarette butts all over the grounds where they apparently remain forever. The walk ways displayed an inordinate number of cigarette butts and one shattered beer bottle ("careful where you step Neemo!!") which was not cleaned up during our visit.
Despite the forgoing which doesn't sound at all encouraging, we give the La Quinta Pensacola an average rating because:
1. They are pet friendly and conveniently situated to I-10.
2. The A/C worked.
3. The bed was comfortable.
4. The refrigerator and microwave worked.
5. The free breakfast was pretty good.
6. The free WIFI worked well.
7. The person at the front desk and several other employees were pleasant.
In a nutshell, if you are NOT looking for pet friendly with a stop in Pensacola, we see no reason to stay here.
