"Difficult to Rate"
Reviewed Jun 5, 2013

This hotel is probably one of the hardest I?ve had to rate. Please read on and maybe I can explain. I checked into this hotel on May 28th while my wife was in the hospital in Chicago. I advised the desk clerk, Laura, that all I needed was one bed if she needed the double room. She told me she could put me in a one king room, but it would cost $5 per night more. I told her I was not paying extra for a one bed; I just thought it might help out the hotel if they needed rooms with 2 beds. On my reservation for 4 days, I had requested a ground floor room, near the lobby. I was told she did not have any rooms available near the lobby, but she could get me on the ground floor. My room was near the back of the hotel. When I got to my room, everything appeared to be neat and clean. As I went to plug in my sleep machine, I found there was no plug in on either side of the beds and none behind the night stand. It appeared there may have been a plug in behind the bed, near the middle, that I could not reach due to the enclosed bed frame. When I told the desk clerk, she told me to look behind the night stand and there would be an outlet there. I told her I did and there wasn?t one. She told me there was one behind the night stand in the room she stayed in. She sent maintenance to help me.
Maintenance arrived promptly and he said I could move to a different room or he could get me an extension cord. Due to it being late, he got me an outdoor heavy duty extension cord, plugged it in, rand it across the bed under the pillows and draped it over the lamp between the beds and tied it with the end hanging down. As I looked over the lamp shade between the beds, the inside of the shade had spider webs in it and there was dust and dirt all over the light bulbs. The lamp on the dresser was the same and had not been cleaned in a while. There was dust on the top edge of the headboard of the bed. Oh well, it got me through the night and I changed rooms the next morning.
Got a room near the lobby as the front desk told me they had rooms near the lobby the night before, but they had been blocked off. Nice room, this one was very clean and it had a plug in between the beds for my sleep machine.
On May 31st, found out my wife was going to be in the hospital longer than expected, so I went to the front desk to extend my stay. When I did, I was told my rate would go up and I could not see spending $108 a night for this type of hotel. I asked for the rate I had been paying and was told they could not honor that for extra days. I was told I could reserve for 7 days which would give me a lower rate, but if I cancelled and didn?t stay the full 7 days, the days that I had already stayed would go up to the regular rate. They told me there was nothing they could do and since they were a corporate hotel, they could not override the rate in the computer. (One of the people that told me this was a Manager from another hotel. The Manager and Asst. Manager for this hotel never seemed to be here.)
After looking most of the day for another affordable hotel, I returned for my last night?s stay. I was talking with the front desk clerk, one I had not seen, and I told her my situation. She said she would call her Asst. Manager and see if she could do anything. The front desk called me a few minutes later and told me the Asst. Manager approved me staying at the current rate I was paying. But earlier I was told they could not override the rate?
On June 1st, the air conditioning unit quit in my room. I notified the front desk (Christy) and maintenance arrived promptly. He checked it and said the fan motor had burned out. The front desk then moved me to another room across the hall (my second room move). My new room was also very clean and neat.
Management seems to give the front desk personnel the authority to address guest problems and issues in the manner they deem the best. However, every time I asked to talk to a member of management, no one was there, except for the manager who showed up from another property.
Most times there was only one person working the front desk and taking care of the breakfast area, which was too much for one person. They need to have at least two people working in the mornings at the front desk and one in the breakfast area. When people are checking in, again only one person at the front desk, so many times people had to wait in line. Again need two people when people are checking in.
As I was checking out today (June 5th), another lady checked out that had been in room 109, the one I was in when the AC fan motor went out. She told the front desk personnel there was something wrong with the AC and it was not blowing air. So I would have to assume they rented the room and had not fixed the AC unit.
The hotel has had a remodel since our last stay here a couple years ago. Altogether, I stayed 8 days in 3 different rooms. The first one appeared clean, but needed the lamps and headboards on the beds cleaned. Both the second and third rooms were very clean, neat and had a fresh smell to them. Good internet service. Breakfast area is small and crowded. Breakfast consists of juices, milk, 24 hour coffee, boiled eggs, cold cereal, muffins, bagels, toast and toaster waffles. (They really need to get a couple waffle machines to fix fresh waffles like a lot of other LaQuinta?s have.) During breakfast, the area is kept pretty clean and during the non-breakfast time, the area is kept very clean and shiny.
The front desk people are all very friendly and seem to want to do the right thing to help. Laura is very friendly and bubbly. Lillian and Wilma are both exceptionally nice lady?s and they went above and beyond to help me get the room location I asked for; one with an outlet by the bed and near the front lobby. Christy will go above and beyond for guests. Several times I observed her giving directions to hotel guests and just telling people what there is to do in the Schaumburg area. They seem to understand when people are in difficult situations, such as being from Kansas and having my wife in the hospital in Chicago. Maintenance personnel (sorry, I failed to get their names) were very prompt both times when they were called to my rooms. Both were very friendly and very helpful.
I was in Illinois for my younger cousins gradaution from IIT. You would say why I stayed so far away from where the school which is located in Chicago. He chose the are and hotel have been living there for the past four years. When I arrived at the hotel they were not prepared for us I book two rooms one for me , the other for his parents, with very little fuss from me they had the rooms prepared checked in and on our way to our rooms. The refrigerators we requested were already in the rooms. The rooms were clean and comfortable, very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and accomadating. The hotel located close to a major mall, plenty of stores mojor department stores, close to the expressway. Rental cars are about 3 miles away, and just alittle hint the rentals are cheeper picking up away from the airport. The hotel shuttle will get you there then you well on your way to enjoying yourself. The breakfast wasn't an issue for me if you on a budget it's a basic breakfast, if you want better there are plenty of other places to go eat from dennys just outside the hotels front door to the right, not sure if Wendys serve breakfast it's also right outside the hotel front door to the left. I stayed there from April 16-21,2013 and have no complaints. I enjoyed driving around Illinois and will definitely stay there the next time I'm in town. Chick-fil-A was my thing so I had no problem........
We stayed here for an early morning run to O'Hare, but there was actually a La Quinta closer to the airport than this one. The drive took approximately 15 minutes at 3 a.m., so it's still pretty close. I selected a room with a king bed, which is what I received. However, the king bed is approximately 5-6 inches shorter than a standard king bed. The width is the same, but my feet hung over the end of the bed, which makes for an uncomfortable sleep, so I had to sleep on a diagonal, which my wife tolerated but did not appreciate. Otherwise, the bed was comfortable. There is a tall mini-fridge in the room and all standard amenities that one would expect. If you're driving west to east, you can't get across the median strip to turn into the hotel.... better to drive east to west.
Recently stayed at the Schaumberg, Il La Quinta Inn. Everything was exceptional. My husband was there for business and I went with him with our small dog. Everything went smoothly, and the king size bed was sooooooo comfortable. Wish I had one like this at home. Will definitely always stay at this type of Hotel from now on. No guessing on what we will end up with, we will always know with La Quinta.
We came to the area from Michigan to visit and do the tourist things. We stayed 2 nights in a double bed room. The hotel is clean and simple with friendly staff. The shower/toilet area is small and we wished the shower was warmer. The hotel is very close to Legoland Discovery, walk around mall as well as a very large mall a little ways a way. If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to do tourist stuff, this place is perfect. As my husband says, "not bad, would stay again"
