"My husband and I had a good visit at La Quinta"

When my mother died this year I stayed at the La Quinta for five days. I had a very good experience. Later my husband went with me for 3 days. I was met at the door with a big smile and welcomed me by my first name. I was told she remembered me from previous visits. My phone had gone down while traveling to San Antonio. and I had forgotten to take my plug-in. She said, "No problem" and plugged it in for me. The room was near the office and it was exactly what I expected. Upon leaving she had my bill made out so as to help me save time.
We had booked our King size bed room two weeks in advance. When we checked in and unloaded our truck, we found the a/c did not work, the refrigerator did not work and had a bad odor. The staff was kind, moved us to another room, which had two double beds, and comped us the first night stay. We stayed in that room the second night also as we did not want to move our belongings again. Even though the staff was accomodating, we will not stay at this particular hotel again.
I have stayed at many La Quinta hotels. I was VERY DISAPPOINTED with this location. The room did not smell clean, it didn't have clean linen and the tub was rusty so the plug wouldn't stay in the drain. The blow dryer was pulling out of the wall when I reached for it. Basically, the room needs basic repairs and attention. It might be ok for a truck driver for one night. However, not satisfactory when you are in town visiting family.
The front desk staff graciously listened to my complaints about the room and offered another room. I declined and checked out earlier in the morning than planned.
We stayed in this hotel while in town for our friend's 90th birthday. It is small, only 122 rooms. Our room was spacious, a/c worked well, the bed was comfy and the room was very clean. Staff was friendly, pleasant and knowledgeable, breakfast good. The location was near enough to the Riverwalk and Alamo area so the drive wasn't long, about 10 to 15 minutes. It is surrounded by the city, no nice views or privacy. But, the hotel was fine and the price was great, left us more cash to spend on fun. If we go back to San Antonio we would consider this hotel.
I have stayed at this hotel before because of the location to my client. While the hotel looks older from the outside, it is quite clean and comfortable. I will definitely choose this hotel in the future.
