I don't usually rate this but you need to be warned this property is old. The bathroom was dirty, tub was unstable. Went to take a swim pool was closed was told it had not been inspected. This stay was in mid June. This is Texas the pool should have been open room smelled.
This is the La Quinta on the Arkansas side of town, there is another on the Texas side. A newer hotel with central corridor and everything fairly modern and in good condition. Clean room. Dog friendly as is all the LaQuinta chain (I believe). The walls facing the interior hallway are thin-- could hear a hair dryer in the room across the hall. But overall was quiet while we were there. Not much breakfast selection-- the usual waffle maker and cold cereal, but the Denny's next door is decrepit.
Probably the 3rd or 4th time we'd stayed here since 2006 and have not been disappointed. Great value for your money. Yes it's older but it's clean. We've never had an issue on any of our stays. The continental breakfast wasn't the greatest but they still had the standard offerings of oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, bagels, etc - you get the idea. You can go a few exits west and stay at one of the newer, pricier hotels that are closer to shopping and chain restaurants but as far as value you can't beat this La Quinta. There's a Denny's next door.
We got off the road for the day at State Line Avenue exit 223 and checked into the La Quinta next to the Denny?s in room 102. It?s an older property. We can walk to dinner and we did. We ordered spaghetti at Denny?s and got ice cream at the gas station after dinner. Later we added up expenses at the end of the first week of the trip, gave the dog a bath, and gave the dog his anti-flea cream that we had just bought at the nearby Petsmart.
We drove from Sulphur Springs to Texarkana on State Line Avenue. The flora and fauna is changing radically. I see ponds of water beside the highway that begin to look like swamps. We cross the Sulphur River and we don?t have to think is it real or man-made. We?re suddenly back in the Deep South in Texarkana.
Staff was incredibly friendly and so helpful. Most of the staff greeted me by my first name. I felt very safe when my husband traveled to Al. for a few days. Rooms were extremely nice for the price. Pillows and beds were great for the price. Rooms were equipped with desk, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, blow dryer and iron and board. Laundry facilities were good and the exercise room was nice too. Restaurants were next door and many nearby. I felt at home.
