"First time and pleasantly surprised"

I was very surprised at how nice this hotel was. Beds were amazing comfortable. Quiet rooms. Very clean. Great Flat Screen TV with a lot of channels. I only regret that I didn't get to try the breakfast, but it's because we slept so well that we ended up missing breakfast! It was my first stay at a La Quinta Inn hotel, and this one made a great first impression! It was a great value too...Highly recommend.
I obtained a decent rate on Priceline for two nights in March 2013.
We were in town for an event and this facility was a five minute drive.
For what we needed, a bed and a shower close to the event, this was adequate.
The neighborhood is rather scary.
I've seen worse but there were plenty of reasons to stay off the streets as much as possible.
It's a sad testament to how socialism has ruined so many once-desirable cities in the northeast.
This was obviously a grand town at one time but is now populated by typical inner-city type dregs and thugs in the downtown area near the hotel.
There were plenty of these types hanging around the hotel also which called for vigilance in the hallways and elevators.
The staff was so so and we avoided all unnecessary contact with them.
The quality of the facility was typical two-star and what was expected.
The room wasn't serviced until way after 3:00 PM which made for some dismay on our part.
The one bright spot was the restaurant next door.
Based on the dreary and dangerous look of the area we weren't interested in traveling for dinner so we walked the 30 feet to the Asian buffet next door and it was great!
It had all the usual buffet fare but the best part was they would prepare fresh dishes on a hibachi and the quality was exceptional.
Would I recommend the hotel?
Only if you have to and only if you can get a very good discount on the rate.
the hotel is in downtown area, fairly easy to find. parking was good the hotel was neat and clean.
the staff was good and the continental breakfast while not the best i have seen was still adequate.
the hotel is in a downtown area but deemed safe and well patroled.
the room was very clean and the shower had granite walls not the usual cheap fiberglass.
there was a youth sports group there so a little noisy but certainly bearable.
We stayed at La Quinta, New Britain for two nights and had the worst time.
For starters, the front desk staff was anything but friendly. The manager came out eating a bowl of food to assist the employee with our reservation, and was obviously irritated that she had been disturbed. While we waited to check in my fiancé noticed a basket with shampoo/conditioner samples and thankfully he took one because when we got to our room the only supplies in the bathroom were two bars of soap.
Our room was useable at best. There were large burn holes in the furniture, the bathroom was gross and had the previous guest's hairs still in the tub, when we pulled down the covers on the bed it was obvious the sheets hadn't been changed.
On our way to the hotel we had stopped to get some snacks for the night and had planned to cuddle up and watch a movie. To our surprise, there were no movies and only 12 channels. When we asked about it the manager smirked and curtly stated "we don't do that here".
I didn't eat the continental breakfast, but my fiancé did and he said it was ok. Parking can be an issue because their lot is small and I didn't notice another lot to use.
When we checked out the manager was working the desk and she asked us how our stay was. When we said it wasn't great she never asked why. There is a definite lack of care and customer service at this hotel. It's one thing to provide a low rate, but even the lower rate was too high for what you get. At two stars we weren't expecting the Four Seasons, but we also weren't expecting to feel like we were one step above a homeless shelter.
Save yourself the hassle and stay somewhere else. There are plenty of nice places at the same rate within a few miles of La Quinta that will actually appreciate your business. We traveled again Easter weekend and had an amazing stay at Extended Stay America Hartford - Farmington. We found a deal for $50 a night and were treated like royalty.
The staff is. XLNT. They take very good care of you like your family :.... We been staying hear for last two months. A d they too care of 12 guys. Very well. What laquinta is. Missing the staff makes up for
