"Nonsmokers beware!"
1 of 5 stars Reviewed Apr 6, 2014

Let me preface this with we are regular La Quinta visitors. As we travel a lot, especially with our pets, we love La Quinta because they are pet friendly, have great military discounts and are generally a great stopover hotel. In fact, we stay at these so often when traveling that we are Gold status members. So we made a reservation in advance for a one night stay at this hotel. When we arrived as a "late check-in" at 8:30 p.m. we were given our room key and headed right up to our room. The room smelled like smoke so I called down to ask and in fact, yes, we had been given a smoking room without being told. We were also told that the fact that we made an advanced reservation made no difference from those that walked in without one. Because we were the last ones to check in we were given whatever was left. I was also told that another guest who made a reservation was in the same situation. This is completely unacceptable. We should have been assigned a room before walk-ins. With the front desk rep being completely unapologetic, I called the La Quinta customer service line and the wonderful rep I spoke with was quite shocked at this policy. The only La Quinta in the area that had rooms available was a 30 minute drive back north (where we had come from) and with how their policies were not customer friendly to begin with, I doubted we could get our money back and this room was nearly $200, making the situation that much more unacceptable. I thought this location would be immaculate for the room rate (because most La Quintas are not this expensive), and it was far from it. Perhaps it was because of the smoke, but the carpets were dingy, the mattress felt obviously old, and it was also clear that the unused towels from the previous guest were not switched out as they reeked of cigarette smoke. Bottom line: No respect for customers that make reservations ahead, which seems to go against general La Quinta policies and if you are a nonsmoker, do not book this hotel because they will not guarantee you a nonsmoking room! (The central La Quinta rep said I should not have been given a smoking room unless I specifically asked for it. Yet another way they go against general La Quinta policy.)

"Extremely Good Experience"

I had to bring my two dogs on this trip and La Quinta allows pets in their rooms and they do not require additional fees. Front Desk was extremely friendly upon check-in. Rooms were clean. Breakfast had a decent variety.

"The 70's called: They want their carpet back!"

Very hard to find...need some highway signage and not a great value compared to the condition of the halls and the cheap, limited toiletries. The guy at the front desk was nice however. Not a great value, but not the worst I've stayed in during my extensive travels.

"Really great beds in these hotels"

I primarily stay at La Quinta hotels because they are clean and the beds feel like the one at home. Just a nice comfortable chain no matter which state I stay in I choose these la Quinta hotels. Having a membership helps toward free rooms and other comps that are great.

"Walk Right In, No Key Required!"
3 of 5 stars Reviewed Feb 24, 2014

This was our second stay at this property. The first time was several years ago, but the condition of the hotel would make one think it was a decade or more. With that said, let's hit the good points first. The staff was very pleasant. Well, that was easy. Now to the problems. In the interest of full disclosure, for several years I traveled extensively in North Central Texas for a few years, and La Quinta was my normal place of lodging. The quality was as consistent as any mid-priced chain, and the accommodations were normally acceptable, if not exactly plush. My previous stay at this particular La Quinta was very pleasant. Not so this time. To keep this as brief and factual as possible, the room was clean, but a little worn. Both elevators showed signs of wear, abuse and deferred maintenance. The deferred maintenance was nothing severe, but it was very noticeable. The complimentary breakfast was okay, but it has suffered the same reductions in quality as other locations. Nothing horrible, just not up to the standards of three years ago. The biggest problem was the problem inferred in the title. The doors on the hotel are supposed to be secured 24 hours a day and require card access. The door farthest from the lobby was not securable and could be entered by anyone. It appeared to function okay, but someone had loosened some screws on the electric lock and the door could be jerked open with little effort. I reported this to the front desk the first night, but it was till broken two days later when we left. The hotel is somewhat off the beaten path, which is both good and bad in this case. There is not a lot of traffic in and around the hotel area as it is set apart from other development for the moment. However, there is greenbelt area adjacent to the property that is near a major highway. Transients and others could approach the hotel at night without much fear of detection. An unsecured door is a problem, though the low traffic in the reduces the risk of an illegal entry. Based on my stays at this property, it appears the occupancy rate is relatively low, and when it is higher, it is sports teams. There were what appeared to be two college or high school age volleyball teams staying there this time. The security problem appeared to be the kind of thing kids would do to come and go without everyone having a key. It also appears there may be a staffing problem. A large semi-permanent banner was in place facing the frontage road and highway soliciting applications for housekeepers, and several desk clerks said they were new. The lack of maintenance response, the sign and the deferred maintenance issues indicate cash flow problems.
