"Walk Right In, No Key Required!"

This was our second stay at this property. The first time was several years ago, but the condition of the hotel would make one think it was a decade or more. With that said, let's hit the good points first. The staff was very pleasant.
Well, that was easy. Now to the problems.
In the interest of full disclosure, for several years I traveled extensively in North Central Texas for a few years, and La Quinta was my normal place of lodging. The quality was as consistent as any mid-priced chain, and the accommodations were normally acceptable, if not exactly plush. My previous stay at this particular La Quinta was very pleasant. Not so this time.
To keep this as brief and factual as possible, the room was clean, but a little worn. Both elevators showed signs of wear, abuse and deferred maintenance. The deferred maintenance was nothing severe, but it was very noticeable. The complimentary breakfast was okay, but it has suffered the same reductions in quality as other locations. Nothing horrible, just not up to the standards of three years ago.
The biggest problem was the problem inferred in the title. The doors on the hotel are supposed to be secured 24 hours a day and require card access. The door farthest from the lobby was not securable and could be entered by anyone. It appeared to function okay, but someone had loosened some screws on the electric lock and the door could be jerked open with little effort. I reported this to the front desk the first night, but it was till broken two days later when we left. The hotel is somewhat off the beaten path, which is both good and bad in this case.
There is not a lot of traffic in and around the hotel area as it is set apart from other development for the moment. However, there is greenbelt area adjacent to the property that is near a major highway. Transients and others could approach the hotel at night without much fear of detection. An unsecured door is a problem, though the low traffic in the reduces the risk of an illegal entry.
Based on my stays at this property, it appears the occupancy rate is relatively low, and when it is higher, it is sports teams. There were what appeared to be two college or high school age volleyball teams staying there this time. The security problem appeared to be the kind of thing kids would do to come and go without everyone having a key.
It also appears there may be a staffing problem. A large semi-permanent banner was in place facing the frontage road and highway soliciting applications for housekeepers, and several desk clerks said they were new. The lack of maintenance response, the sign and the deferred maintenance issues indicate cash flow problems.
I stayed here for business trip for three days, actually liked the room , was very comfy and clean,
I absolutely hated the shower , they are saving way too much on water with those shower-heads..and the water was not very warm, this is probably why I would not stay there again , even though the location is great for my needs (close to the Austin office) .
I did complain at the reception , and they were very nice and promised to help, but it did not seem that anything was done with the warm water issues.
At least two of the friends travelling with me got a roach in their room. yay! I had also a hard time to sleep as trees that are very close to the windows scratch and hit the glass. The rooms are big and the beds were clean. But cockroaches, no matter how good your hotel is, will drop your score to 0 in my book.
We based our extended weekend, visiting our grandchildren, at this Hotel. It could not have worked out nicer. The staff was excellent and accommodating. Can't enough State of Texas waffles for breakfast. Thanks, we will be back.
Although our GPS did not recognize the address, AJ at the desk gave us an adjacent address which our GPS did recognize. Our room was clean, quiet, spacious, well-lit and well-dark. There was no "motel" smell. The sheets were good quality and the bed very comfortable. The vanity was large and there was also a "nitch" with a mirror and counter space. There was a coffee pot in the room with coffee for three makings. Breakfast was OK hotel standard fare. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again!
