This was a very nice place to spend the night. Even though there was a slight odor of old cigarette smoke in the halls - and a little less so in the room - the place was otherwise scrupulously clean. The room was of good size and the bed was especially comfortable. There was a choice family resyaurants in easy driving distance (just not a good road to walk on) for supper. The breakfast was ample, well prepared and of good variety. The staff was very pleasant. All in all this is a good value and we'll stop there next time.
When we arrived here in July last year on the way to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal to pick up the Queen Mary 2, we noticed that all the Harrisburg motels were located on Eisenhower Boulevard. This one was up on a hill within walking distance of McDonalds where we immediately indulged in strawberry lemonades. We were to find that there were as many restaurants as there were motels in the immediate area. Not accustomed to diners, we skipped that one for dinner and decided to eat at Bob Evans Restaurant instead. Our family split our order. Two of us ordered chef's salads with dressing. The other ordered fried chicken fingers with coleslaw. For breakfast we ate CP in the motel lobby in a special breakfast room where they served blueberry muffins, orange juice, yogurt, and hot tea.
Traveling through Pennsylvania can be a challenge. It is nearly impossible to find a hotel that is clean and near the interstate. This hotel is nearly brand new, very upscale, the lobby is high ceilinged and spacious and elegantly appointed with the nearby breakfast area also very nice.My room was lovely: king bed with excellent mattress and linens, flat screen televsion with easy to figure out remote/channels, a very convenient desk area for ones laptop and a superb bathroom with La Quinta's always excellent showerhead. Plenty of hot water, friendly staff, all in all a really fine hotel at a very fair price.
The only two things I did not care for are there's no dining establishment nearby so I had to drive to find dinner and the outside of the hotel is pretty barren, no decent dog walking area to speak of. One hopes that landscaping will be addressed in the near future. I would stay here again and probably will the next time we travel through Pennsylvania.
We were traveling home and decided to pull off rt 81 and spend the night in Hershey. I read on-line that this La Quinta was a new hotel, so we tried it. It was new, clean bright and modern.Great selection for breakfast. Has a pool and hot tub. they allow pets. Big lobby. The only odd thing that I have to complain about is the curtains. The window is a good size and the inner sheer curtains can be pulled back or closed but not the heavy outer ones. At night the room was too well lit for me to sleep well(outdoor billboards) 4 miles to Hershey Park. Easy to get on rt 81 both directions. Great restaurant next door..Hershey Road Family Restaurant.
I am writing from my room at the La Quinta at the Airport in Harrisburg. All hotels start out at a 5 and get a star deducted for major disappointments. Good things first: Check in was speedy and nice. I asked for two extra towels and was given them immediately with a smile. The bed was fairly comfortable for the price point of this hotel. No bed toppers but that is not expected at this price point. The shower had great pressure and the hot water stayed hot. Usually that is enough to warrant 5 stars from me. Now the bad:
The room smelled. It was a combination of maple syrup and old smoking room that never got rid of the smoke smell. YOU MUST REPAINT THOSE ROOMS!! But since there is only wallpaper on the walls, that would require more effort and apparently not worth undertaking. I requested a non smoking room, not a formerly smoking room. YOU MUST RID YOURSELF OF THAT HORRID ODOR before you sell this room to a nonsmoker. The odor transferred to my clothing. Minus one star.
Just before i turned in, i noticed on top of my alarm clock, a cockroach slowly making its way towards my bed. Now, a cockroach is not a major disappointment, ITS DOWNRIGHT UNSANITARY! That caused me to wonder if there were more floating around the room so i had to check everwhere. I couldnt find more, but you just know there are more. So, i went to bed creeped out. Minus 2 for unsanitary.
so, all in all this was a poor hotel and i will not be returning to it as there are other hotels in the area around this price point.
